Op here. I live in Bethesda, so all 3 places are within 30 min with Sibley's being the closest. With GT I'm worried about not having a specific Ob I can go to and getting stuck with someone unknown for my delivery. When you delivered there, was it pre scheduled with someone you knew already?

Also, I mentioned that I used to work there, right? I am comfortable with going there because of I know the place well, just didn't have any experience with its maternity ward.

Both times I delivered there I didn't know the doctor, but I also did not care. At all. First time, I just wanted them to save my baby, and they did. Second time, I just wanted that kid OUT!! LOL. I seriously remember nothing at all about the doctors.

I mean as far as getting stuck with someone unknown for a delivery. That happened to me even though I tried to meet as many as the providers as possible and stayed at only 1 practice the whole pregnancy. It is what it is. I didn't know the midwife who delivered my baby or the doctor that was pulled in when I started to have some serious complications. I'm thankful for them regardless because they saved my life, but I didn't know them at all beforehand. Sometimes it's luck of the draw and there's only so much I can do and control

Maternal Fetal Medicine. They are basically high-risk OBs. But a decent percentage of them don't do deliveries.

What’s an MFM?

I switched to Georgetown in my second trimester while working a hellish job that made scheduling and keeping appointments difficult so I mostly got to know the NPs and managed to see 2 OBs before my normal pregnancy went awry at 32 weeks. I saw 3 MFMs and 2 OBs that week and then developed HELLP and had an emergency c at 33 weeks. Totally new (to me) doctors on the day I delivered. They were all excellent. The nurses are outstanding. I could not be more grateful that I transferred there on my own and didn’t end up being moved there last minute when I became high risk (or having my baby sent there and being stuck at Sibley.) My baby spent a month in the NICU and that care was outstanding too. Yes, Georgetown is so annoying to schedule with and it took forever for my records to transfer but you honestly can’t go wrong if you decide to go there. You and your baby will be well taken care of no matter when/how you deliver.

so with cwc and Foxhall you are going to deliver with whoever is on call. Even if you schedule a c section your preferred doctor micght not be doing surgery that week. Just pick a practice that delivers at the hospital you want to deliver at.

This is very true. And your original sole practitioner could be in this rotation.

Btw is your MFM Hamersley? If so, I would 100% trust her recommendation. She is fantastic.

OP, do you trust your MFM? If you do, it would make sense to go with who she recommends to deliver you. The job of your MFM is to help you and baby have a safe delivery, and keep you both healthy. She is probably had many patients with similar issues as you, and helped them have successful pregnancies and healthy outcomes. I would put a lot of trust in who she recommends, assuming she is a good and experienced MFM.

She's had a recently bad experience after placing trust in a doctor who turned out late her know late in the game he was uncomfortable with managing her health condition. Keep the appointments and go until you meet someone you like and can trust. Best to figure that by meeting the OB. Best of luck OP.

Are you trying to get a different answer than the one the original doc gave for delivery? Is the goal to NOT be induced at 37 weeks even though your MFm recommended it?

Omg. Just go with your MFM recommendation. You're not 1 hour from Shady Grove. All of these providers will be inducing you early or talking about a csection. Is this your first child? It's total overkill and unnecessary to see 3 different practitioners at this point in your pregnancy. Pick one and hope for the best. What is your biggest concern?

I agree with this. A high risk delivery is, unfortunately, not a big deal in this area. These hospitals see them all the time. Literally.

OP, pick a doctor and/or hospital and go with it. You do not need to go to all 3 appointments. Cancel two of them.

First of all, everyone jokingly calls Shady Grove Shady Grave. My father worked there for close to a decade and called it that.

OP, any practice you go to will have a number of docs and unless you schedule a c-section with a specific DOD you know, you will deliver with whoever is on call. That's the downside with going with a larger practice.
