I live in Bethesda, and we don’t travel like that. You’ll meet some more laid back people if you give it time. We’re here too. Almost all our vacation is to visit family, who are spread far and wide.

Homebody here. DH makes 7 figures as in his line of work. We have amazing benefits, completely free healthcare with no co-pays and all out of network covered at 100%, free country club membership (which we do not do because we don't like Country Clubs), amazing bonus and salary. We go on a couple short trips a year to see family. Every few years we take a "fancy" trip to places like the Florida theme parks, Cancun, and one time to Italy. But this happens every 3 years or so. Most of our money goes to our kids' private school education, college savings, home improvement, and charity. We give a good portion of our money to charities and we also started a non profit and give a lot there too. Our cars are 7 and 4 years old and Japanese. Our kids are learning what the important things are in life...family, education, and giving back. Yes, they see on their Instagram feed that all their friends are going to ridiculously extravagant places, but they just have to deal with it. It is interesting that a lot of the kids who are going on fancy vacations are their public school friends. I guess it is because they have more disposable income to use for that purpose. Either way, we can afford it, but like I said, I am a homebody and don't need that level of stimulation to be happy.

I'd love to travel internationally, but by the time we see our extended family (as close as NY and as far away as HI), we've killed our entire year's allotment of vacation days.

But we're lucky to have family in a bunch of awesome places, and we take time out to do some cool stuff. Since we sadly don't have healthcare lobbyist's family's budget, we fly coach (usually Southwest) and spend the saved money on new experiences.

TL;DR: Our vacations sound way cooler than they actually are.

OP here - it isn't entirely a $ thing for us, we did move to DC for promotions and we get paid more. Though we couldn't take 10 vacations per yr in business class, we could go beyond our 1 vacation and def take 2, maybe 3 in coach. I guess it's a priorities thing bc going out of town for every 3 or 4 day weekend seems like a chore to me -- packing, unpacking, laundry, flight delays, not to mention stressing at work beforehand to make sure things are buttoned up in such a way that your weekend getaway isn't interrupted; whereas when you stay in town, if you have to log onto work for 2 hrs on a long weekend, it isn't a big deal.

I also don't want the kids to have the impression that we'll start doing things just bc their peers are doing them -- we'll travel more if it works for us parents to travel more.

Don’t worry, you don’t need to say anything else, dear.

I wish I could convince my DH to travel this much. It’s not a $ issue for us but a time issue. No way he could be out for 6 weeks a year.

We also travel a lot, because it's important to us, we are fortunate enough to be able to afford it, and we are foreign so we go back to our home country often to see friends and family. But the bolded makes me cringe. We do often fly business class on longhaul flights because getting sleep on the flight makes a big difference to us in terms of our enjoyment of the trip. But I am always uncomfortable about our children having absurd expectations of travel (I grew up traveling a lot too but usually not business class, and when we were older, my parents would sometimes fly business and we kids would fly at the back) and fly economy for all shorthaul travel and as parents we think a lot about how to ensure that we don't raise entitled kids because of the experiences they are having. Have you thought about this?
