Look here. The school calls the boy's parents (just like some of us got called) the evening of the incident. i.e. the boy's parents are made aware of the allegations brought upon their son. What educated reasonable parent wouldn't make sure their gun (if there was one) was then secured. Knowing this, I am comfortable sending my kid to school the next day.

NP here. But Homicidal Intent is a reason to hospitalize a kid. As a boarding school social worker I took my share of anorexic or suicidal teens to the ER, and they always ask, "HI/SI?" (homicidal intent/suicidal intent) Which is social worker code for, "Is this child a danger to himself or others?" Being a danger to others is ABSOLUTELY a reason to hospitalize a child to stabilize them.

Unlikely, given that there's zero substantiation of anything OP has posted, it could all be a complete fiction. ArlNow isn't exactly the textbook example of rigorous journalism but they do have some standards, and I think throwing a community into hysterics over unsubstantiated rumor on an anonymous message board is a step lower than they would go.

Whew. I hope you are right, OP, but I disagree strenuously with both the conceit that this kid can't be a threat because his parents are "high ranking" professionals (and I'll bet money the kid is white) and with your idea that they'll definitely secure their guns now.
When I was in high school, a kid came in with a gun and killed two classmates, and wounded 25. His parents were loving and supportive. His dad was a high school teacher and his mom was a college professor. They knew he was disturbed, but thought they could cure him of his obsession with guns by letting him shoot in a controlled environment.
He killed both of his parents, who were by all accounts kind, successful, and wonderful people. Then he opened fire in a school cafeteria.

I don't know about that but it without question warrants a call to the police. Not 911, there's a non-emergency number. You would MUCH rather involve the police now than a year or two down the road when we're watching the school on the news with multiple casualties. Do you want that guilt OP?
Read Jodie Picoult's "19 minutes" . She did TONS of interviews and research with teen school shooters. There were always warning signs like this that kept getting pushed under the rug or 'it's just a little kid' thing in every.single.one of the future killers.

Child Psych case manager who does intake for an inpatient facilities, determining medical necessity based on established criteria. The information on this thread is indicative of a child who would meet medical necessity criteria for an inpatient psych stay.
