Thank you for the "long winded" post on UVa/Va Tech engineering. It's good to hear different analyses behind the decisions. Very insightful and definitely something to think about. I am just hoping that things become clearer for us as it gets closer to decision time. [/quote]

You're welcome. Hope it helped. The college application process is brutal. Best of luck to you and your daughter!

Sorry. Just reread your post. Your son! Best of luck to your son in his decision-making process.

That age cohort is awful. Most of them wouldn't have came within 500 miles of being accepted under today's standards.

Value (best college under $30k yr in USA) & best college in the commonwealth.

Best college in the commonwealth reminds me of that insensitive joke about the short bus....

Years ago, ESPN ran an article basically explaining why, if you graduated from UVA, well, yeah, you'd be arrogant too. Well justified.

I don't buy the it's all about the money/value argument.

Most of these parents give off a vibe like the OP experienced, as if UVA is superior to actual elite colleges. I'm never sure if it's arrogance, defense mechanism or they're totally delusional.

I have read this entire thread, and I didn't get the impression at all that the "UVA parents" obnoxious. I get the impression they are making a cost/benefit analysis.

Minus the more substantive posts re: engineering, the majority UVA posts here have proved the point: the parents are obnoxious

The UVA rat race makes me sad. All those crushed dreams. And crushed parents.
