That age cohort is awful. Most of them wouldn't have came within 500 miles of being accepted under today's standards.

I don't buy the it's all about the money/value argument.
Most of these parents give off a vibe like the OP experienced, as if UVA is superior to actual elite colleges. I'm never sure if it's arrogance, defense mechanism or they're totally delusional.
