Maybe you're unique, but most people consider their audience when making decisions about their appearance. Otherwise, you'd see a lot more sweat pants at fancy dinners and more ball gowns while watching TV on the couch. These fashion choices illustrate that people aren't dressing "for themselves." I don't see why aspirations about how their body looks would be any different.

But, at the end of the day, I think you're right that people should just strive for a healthy body that feels good and will hopefully stand the test of time. I think this data probably helps in that respect. If being sexy is something you want for yourself, you don't necessarily have to starve yourself.

Beauty norms for men have always been muscular and lean. Not so for women. It's really in the past hundred years that the extremely thin look has been in, and even that has really not been the case

Fashion and the modeling industry like extremely thin. Guys are on the whole drawn to fit, healthy women.

Curvy beats skinny. I imagine curvy versus athletic is going to be a toss up. Fat probably loses to skinny, curvy, and athletic.

Man here. Have not read 9 pages of thread. I can promise you men don't prefer fat women. Some men prefer curvy over skinny, think like size 8-12. I know there are some chubby chasers but they are rare.

I like curvy, and I do think there are many men who like size 8 over size 2.
