ESOL is not funded totally through the federal government or even the state government. Most of the cost comes from local taxes.

ESOL is a program that is largely (if not totally funded through the federal government transfer of money to the local educational agency. I do not think using those funds for substitute teaching (a local expenditure) is how that money was meant to be spent.

I'm an ESOL teacher in another state and our admins don't pull up to sub because it violates our contract. They pull ESOL paras and non-ESOL paras nearly everyday.

Sometimes they combine classes or pull a para or assistant to cover.

My school pulls ESOL teachers. We aren't required to provide "hours" of service, so we often get pulled from our students that we serve to cover a class. Last year, I went three months without seeing groups between class coverage, test coverage (because you need a licensed teacher to proctor), etc.

My school doesn't pull SPED because the compliance rules require specific hourly contacts with students. If they aren't getting services, the parents can and will escalate and the kid could get private school paid by the county. There's no mandate for ESOL like that and most ESOL parents don't know their rights anyway.

The percent of unfilled teacher sub jobs between the dates indicated in the request is 6.62%.

Not a surprise. Perhaps it's a bit surprising that it is that low.

It might be starting in the month of October.

If my current school is any indication, plenty of us are working today. I was “reserved” by a teacher weeks ago to cover today, tomorrow, and Friday and I’ve talked to two other substitutes in this building who are doing the same. It’s certainly possible that some subs are out of town or busy after a long weekend, though.

yeah, this is not good . . .

He is very sorry

Thank you to those reaching out. Other people can judge but people who know me know the shoes I'm in. That I fight hard to stay positive and life gets the best of me at times. This won’t define me. Sorry if you thought I was perfect.

Thank you to everyone for the support. You can never learn from mistakes in life until you truly lose something special. This moment bundled up in sadness has been waiting for me my whole life. I just fought to push it back as long as I could until I couldn’t fight no more. I'm thankful I’ve met it and now can see the beauty in the world moving forward. This moment won’t define me.

He wrote an apology video and letter.

Not PP but nothing? I read it as those are the only qualified people that are subbing.
