$180 per year? For a Superintendent/Chancellor????? That's what building principals make! Wasn't Kaya making much more--$280+?
What's with the low salary? I thought the $400+ sounded a bit high but $180?????
Wilson will make a base salary of $280K in DC. http://dc.gov/release/mayor-bowser-announces-antwan-wilson-dcps-chancellor
To clarify about Wilson's $400k salary in Oakland: According to transparentcalifornia.com, Wilson received a compensation package worth $400K in 2015. The package included salary ($293,835.95), "other pay" ($9,600.00), and benefits ($96,660.61). Now, take home pay just shy of $300K is still a lot, but I just wanted to get the real numbers on here.
There is a more interesting conversation to be had about why his salary jumped a whopping 30% from 2014 to 2015 (search for "Antwan Wilson" in the transparentcalifornia.com database and you'll find two salary records). This seems particularly high when you consider the tense negotiating that when into getting a 14% raise for teachers in 2015. http://www.eastbayexpress.com/SevenDays/archives/2015/06/04/oakland-teachers-approve-new-contract-with-salary-increases-class-size-reductions
My friends in the Bay Area were shocked and irate about that contrast. I guess the guy wanted to leave town soon, and was able to dupe Bowser.
In one of his interviews he said he wasn't looking and Browser call him up.

Did Antwan's parents appropriate and consciously misspelled Antoine?

This. Not much of a difference between $280k and $293k if that's what you're really comparing. Especially if his tenure in Oakland was going to end as the writing on the wall indicated.

She has not gone one step out of her way to help a charter school yet.
Released facilities - no
Moved to settle FOCUS lawsuit - no
Kept facilities allotment to charters even despite inflation - yes
The only high-quality credential in his resume is that he graduated from the Broad program, which is known for being pro-charter.
Well, he's Chancellor now, so now of it matters. He can't be any worse than anyone else who's had the job.
Give the guy a chance.
Agreed.
And, in any case, it is Bowser's head on the line for such a murky hiring process and questionable result.
Antwan deserves a chance to prove what he can do, and I do hope he improves public schools for all.

Yes, he can be. Oakland is not exactly top quality education. At least he didn't run the PG schools.
Yes. At least there's that.
