No, but it's a nice option to have. Friends and family visiting from out of town like to use it, our nanny uses it, and we figure our kids will use it when they get older.

I live in AU park close to the old law school and it takes me almost twice as long to get to work at the pentagon taking the metro compared to driving. Even if I didn't need a bus to get to the metro it would still be longer, I drive because it is quicker and easier. Also friendship heights sucks in the morning after 8 or so, most trains are already packed and the number of stops before china town is too many. My wife on the other hand takes it to K street to avoid paying for parking.

We have a house in the low $1M's in NW and I metro every day. DH took the bus until his bus route was discontinued. Though, lately I'm starting to re-consider due to metro unpredictability. Reallllly hope they get their act together. I love being able to read, having the excuse to walk a little instead of sitting in a car, and not having to deal with paying for/ maintaining a second car. We're a family of 3 and barely use the one car we have. We generally uber when we go out to dinner on the weekends though - don't have the patience for metro but don't want to deal with driving/ parking.

$1.3 million house. Both my husband and I metro to work every day. It's better for the environment and I hate the hassle of fighting traffic. Of course, lots of days I hate metro as well but for us it's the lesser of two evils. Obviously that's not the case for everyone.

We live in an "expensive" house near the metro. We are able to take the PRP metro train. You know, it runs on a separate track and the unwashed masses like yourselves are not allow on. We have a dress code.

We live in a "big house" in a close-in neighborhood in DC. I drive to my office in downtown because I usually don't get out of work before 7:30pm (some nights go past 8pm), and by that hour, traffic has died down and I can drive home faster than I can get there via metro.

The service is so awful and it's such a bad experience that lots of people are like us -- live very close to Metro, but very rarely use it. I guess if I didn't value my time or ever have to be on time to things and didn't care about my safety I would ride.
Depending on where I'm going the metro can be much faster than driving. My current work commute is literally 15 minutes door to door with the metro, driving can be up to 30.
