Did a lot of players decline offers at your club this year?

I was amazed to see the high volume of players that declined spots at our club this year. Some of the older age groups had double digits the # of players that declined.

This scares me a bit. Is this a birth year thing? Is this due to the fact people really shopped around this year or indication that people are really unhappy with the Club? Maybe a little of both?

Did things shake up at other clubs this much???

Those kids are existing play-ups. Micro-academy have different shirts.


Makes sense. I think I saw the Micro-Academy in black on an adjacent field practicing. If they have a bunch of play-ups from last year, then you already have a bunch of boys acclimated to playing on the bigger fields. Could possibly be a good group of boys next season.

I've seen tryouts where everyone wears white, and those that have returning players wear their practice jerseys. I think it's better for new players if the returning players wear their practice jerseys as it makes it easier for coaches to focus on those players they haven't seen before, rather than those players they've been training for several months and already know. Stoddert alternated from current players wearing club training shirts to having them wear white or any color. No pattern, and no idea why the thinking shcnaged from year to year.


Arlington and Mclean both state only plain white t-shirts and absolutely no club gear--even club shorts or socks. the socks shorts is a little weird since we own the same Copa socks in many different colors.

But--they pre-sort so they already know who the travel players in the club are. I am guessing it's so newcomers don't see the fields stacked with travel players in their gear and they get to think they have a shot.

Depends on the format. If tryouts are essentially joining an existing team for practice, the kids who are already in the club are usually wearing training gear. If they're doing a "blind tryout," yeah, everyone wears a plain-ish shirt and maybe a pinnie.

I know they did have several kids (siblings of older kids) playing up on the C teams last year.

Definitely. They want you to go to three tryouts, and they have four dates left.
