If you are anything other than Latina then it's stripper.

No way ! That is hysterical
Shouldn't the other girl have been Beatrice if they were going full Frenchy on the Genevieve? Beatrix makes me think of Beatrix Potter.
Yeah I thought it was weird then they started talking super pretentiously about it so I stopped listening.
Ok, please explain to me how the French pronunciation differs from the America English one? I speak French (and British English) and am not aware of a difference, for either name.

But in all seriousness, many of these "pretentious" names sound British, so there is a lot if horrid stereotyping going on here. I knew an Aussie Penelope who was totally normal, and Americans named Thaddeus and Preston who were also very middle class if not a bit goofy. These were ask acquaintances from high school or college in the 00's. I never thought their names were pretentious; just unusual.

Not pretentious if Latina.
Anonymous wrote:Tarquin. Seen on a Sky documentary about Harrow School. I looked this name up, since I'd never heard it before, and apparently it's a British name so poncy and posh that it's essentially a caricature name. None of the British posters discussing the show could believe someone had actually named their child that.

I wanted this as our boy middle name. I'm a Trekkie.. We had three girls (and one has a name of a minor character from one of the movies).
I like you.
