I think your DH knew how you would react so he needed to manage one thing at a time, rather than a shit storm.
Yes, the car IS replaceable, whether you grew up rich or poor. It is a
thing, however, lives are not replaceable. The accident could have resulted in much worse consequences with severe injury or deaths.
I agree with the pp. This is more than about the accident. You can not control another human being to your pleasure.
