john adams summered at cravath. thankfully for the country and world, he decided to go a different route. good move on his part. literally NOBODY in his class made partner. some ended up in-house, some ended up at boutique firms, some ended up in BIGFED, and others just flamed out, did doc review temp work for a while and disappeared. you know, when you think of it, adams really just took a roundabout route to BIGFED.
cravath wasnt even around back then, but good point on how lawyers prestige shines through in government leadership.

I am blown out with respect for her. She actually can make a real difference--a life and death difference, and does all the time.
I'm almost 50 and so are many of my friends, so a common theme is: "I am entering into the second half of my life. I want to leave the planet a better place. (Besides raising good kids) What can I do to make difference?"
My doctor friend does not have to mull over this one.
I vote doctor.
You mean she is great at consults? ER docs don't deal with life and death. They exist to turf patients.
If you have a car wreck and are bleeding out, the ER doctor will try to save your life. You are an idiot.
No, the trauma surgeon will stop the bleeding , the anesthesiologist will obtain the airway and resuscitate, the radiologist will read the films, and the intensivist (often the surgeon or anesthesiologist) will take care of you post op.
You haven't spent much time in a hospital, have you
The ER doc will screw up all of the above before he consults the experts listed above.

This thread is hilarious.
Jonas Salk, Edward Lister, Louis Pasteur, Alexander Fleming are but a few household names that come to mind, helping save billions of lives.
Blanking on any similar lawyer names......
Ghandi, Lincoln, John Adams
All famous because they were lawyers right?
Their roles and education as lawyers gave them the opportunities to be political leaders.
...because they chose NOT to be in BigLaw.

I believe lawyers are more prestigious than physicians, as a whole. Big law lawyers are more prestigious than almost any physician.
My colleague believes certain specialties in medicine are more prestigious than big law, including anesthesiology, radiology, ophthalmology, and dermatology.
Any dcum opinions?

Give it up! There have been some great lawyers. But this question has been put to bed, definitively, on DCUM. Lawyers can make a lot of money. They also have a whiff of the disreputable, the scheming, about them. Only quacks, Dr. Oz and ageless plastic surgeons who only do boob jobs have this whiff in the medical field.
