I agree, the UMD campus is very pretty. College Park itself, not so.

Rumours of a 250 million indoor football facility by Underarmour.

Retention of the university golf course, a new soccer stadium , a new best western , burying all power lines and resurfacing, roads and bricking sidewalks.

The word on the street is , the area will be transformed over the next 10 years.

Wow, an extended stay hotel and another CVS! Then it will be a great campus!

just saying, the area is next on the list of inside the beltway boomtown.

I'll believe it when I see it; for now and the foreseeable future, Maryland is the epitome of a "bad college campus."

Have you even been on the College Park Campus? It is G-O-R-G-E-O-U-S - even before the recent upgrades it was used as a filing location by Hollywood.

Not at all but Maryland exemplifies an ugly campus in a bad location which is the topic of this thread. Too bad it's not a classy urban campus or in a beautiful location in western Maryland, instead of a giant suburban commuter school.

It is a respectable choice for those who can't get into U Va.

Umd is superior to Uva in every subject that is difficult. Uva is better at history and english. Depends on the major.

Every school we've toured has an honor code. My SLAC and law school also had one. I don't think there's anything unique about W&L's at all. VMI next door has it. UVA. VT. GMU, etc.

W&L's honor code has been widely recognized as playing a more important role at the school than is the case at a big state university.

Seriously, I think they all have honor codes. Certainly VMi did next to W&L. My kids' colleges have them. My husband's and my SLACs had them,as did my B school. I don't think it's anything unique. Every school we've toured mentions it and also how safe the campus is, you can leave your laptop in the library, blah blah blah and walk back 30 min. later and it will still be there.

University of Maryland. DC did not even want to get out of the car, as it was so ugly and in such a generally blah area.
