I personally know a number of GDS parents with Harvard degrees (college, HLS or both). So it's entirely logical that there would be strong interest in Harvard and a respectable "track record" of GDS students going on to Harvard.

Sidwell doesn't have an "in" with Yale. Yale has an "in" with Sidwell.

UPenn is also a very popular choice for GDS students.

Parents may buy Harvard and similar shirts for their kids to motivate them to do well in high school and to show a family connection to the college if a parent is an alum. But when a student is a HS senior they tend to stop wearing college gear, particularly from those schools where they plan to apply (so as not to jinx their chances and to avoid looking foolish if not accepted). Once admission offers are out and a senior decides, then he or she starts wearing the swag of his/her future college.

+1. I know sophomore and junior kids (i.e. not accepted yet) at public and private schools who wear Harvard sweatshirts. And Tufts and Columbia and NYU sweatshirts. Whether it's a private or public high school, often there's an older sibling at one of these colleges. (For some reason, it's called "repping" your sibling's college. Don't ask me why. DC, a junior, "reps" older DC's college by wearing the sweatshirt.) In one case the girl is a sophomore who wants to go to Harvard. The point is, anybody with $40 can buy a Harvard sweatshirt.

I'm sure the GDS Harvard admits are spectacular students but there are definitely admissions relationships at play as well. Like everything else in life, successful outcomes can be a result of who you know.

Never heard any school but GDS claim it has an "in" with any particular college or university. I don't think GDS has an "in" with Harvard. That claim always makes me cringe because it take something away from the students themselves

It seems that Sidwell Friends has an "in" at Yale, so it's certainly credible that GDS might have an equally strong relationship with the Harvard College admissions office.

It's also possible that the GDS students will join Harvard rowing when they matriculate next year, or maybe they will not pursue crew there in favor of involvement on some other college activity. This time of year seniors wear the clothing of their chosen college, so it's reasonsble to conclude that several GDS seniors are Cambridge-bound.

By that logic, my daughter is headed to KALE next year!

So gds poster come out and say that two or more members of the gds crew team are goig to Harvard or stop implying it. This is anonymous board with no personal repercussions.
