Maybe an in-person psychiatric evaluation for aspiring gun slingers would be more appropriate-- which would no doubt cost a lot of money... which would further discourage gun totin'.
It involves an FBI records check. If you google NICS it should have more about it. (Not trying to give a non-answer, just want the information to be accurate)
Why would an American want to "further discourage gun totin'"? The fact that the school was a "gun free zone", aka "criminal protection zone", probably added to the number of victims. Where I live, we all carry and crime is extremely low. Cowards like that shooter almost always choose soft targets as victims.

The point of the blame game is to try to prevent future tragedies. People try to blame the convenient culprit, guns. But if people took responsibility for themselves, their families, and their neighborhood, tragedies could be averted.
I know every one of my neighbors in my one block radius. Bet you anything not one of them is a terrorist. I can also tell you that none of my kids or neighbors kids will kill people. Why? Because I, and people in my family and neighborhood have awareness.
Nearly Every one of these recent tragedies could have been avoided, such as that batman killer guy, because the signs were there-people didnt act on the signs.
I believe a good approach would be to hold parents accountable up to a certain age. Remember that kid from bethesda who was making bombs in his garage or something? i seem to recall the parents were held accountable. (Though cant recall the details.). This is a good start. Would be more effective than gun control.
You're a dangerous moron who thinks he can read other's minds, that much is true. People are capable of almost anything. Germans in the 1930's knew their neighbors in a one block radius, too.
+1
I dont understand the aversion to the pp. There's quotes in the New York Times of a neighbor that says something like no one really knew her - only rang her bell at Halloween. The lack of a sense of community and knowing your neighbors is a problem. Its always these loners too. Upon reflection everyone seems to say they weren't surprised. Maintaining a connection with members of your community is the first defense and ultimately easier to implement then new laws or overreactions. I honestly don't see how explaining this is worthy of being labeled a moron. And, I bet you as expert sociologists are consulted you will hear a lot more about it. Guns have been available forever in this country but its only recently that these crazy events have been occurring. We need to address the problem.

Name calling isn't going to help. I assume your the parent whose daughter is having lots of premarital sex and your son will kill people because you obviously lack any ability at learning about others.
Anonymous wrote:You all are complete idiots. The guns did not kill anyone, a psychotic coward did. If he was not able to get a firearm he would have built a bomb or used a knife (see the incident that just happened in China). Anyone else notice that all the mass shootings take place in "gun free zones"? Gee I wonder why???
Firearms are used much, much more often to protect people than they are ever used to kill the innocent. Often without a shot being fired. In addition, studies have shown that the ONLY thing that has shown to be effective in deterring and preventing this many people from being shot is the presence of an armed intervention (be it police or a citizen) and that concealed carry laws have been effective in bringing down crime rates.
As for the Second Amendment, read Federalist paper #29 for an education.

Um, what sort of firearms are "military grade" weapons? You're fear mongering and spewing forth lies and half truths.![]()
She showed that she didn't value her own life or that of others by keeping accessible guns in a home with a mentally unstable young man. There were a million other, more productive ways she could have spent her time and yet she spent her time at the gun range learning how to, presumably, shoot other people so don't preach to me about all the good she would have done if she had lived. She would have spent the rest of her life fighting lawsuits and living like a social pariah.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:It's a small mercy that he killed his mother. Would you want to live knowing that your guns that you had to have because of your idiotic hobby were used by your mentally ill son to kill so many little children? Who would want to live with that? Besides her house and financial assets, she probably had life insurance. If the Lanza family has any sense, they will give every dime to the families of the victims.
I imagine the mother, if she had lived, would have suffered terribly for the rest of her life. That said, what an odd dismissal of someone's right to live. Maybe she would have wanted to live. Maybe she could have accomplished good things with the rest of her life. Maybe there are people - such as her other son, her friends and relatives - who love her and needed her to live.

Wrong! The firearm transfer has to be handled through a Federal Firearms License holder (FFL). The transaction is face to face with a photo ID required. Some states (perhaps all) require a background check (NICS - FBI) before transferring.
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Shut the fuck up. If your son or daughter committed a crime should we blame you? Tragedy can strike anyone. No one is above it including you. And assigning blame before knowing all the facts reflects poorly on you.
If you facilitated it, then yes, you have some culpability. The laws in CT were good enough to prevent the shooter from obtaining a gun. If his mother had been a more responsible gun owner, he wouldn't have had access. We should be blaming the people arming these nutjobs! Maybe then people will be more responsible with their weapons.

So in other words, nothing that would have prevented this guy from buying whatever he wanted.
No, in other words, you were either wrong (labeled by some as ignorant) or being dishonest (called by some a LIE) in your post. So, are you ignorant or a liar?
Additionally, he couldn't have purchased a handgun until he was 21 (and met the other requirements of course); http://www.cga.ct.gov/2009/pub/chap529.htm#Sec29-34.htm. There are some reports that he tried to purchase long guns from Dick's Sporting Goods and was denied but law enforcement hasn't verified that yet. Still, he would've had to go through the checks that both CT and the feds require regardless of if he purchased locally or online. Online dealers are not exempt from the same transfer requirements as local dealers.
