To 12:52: he might not have been mentally ill as a minor. He might have snapped as a young adult.

It is a manifestation of a mental illness in some cases, but the dominant culture does not seem to recognize it or care to delve into it, so yes. Your mock incredulity is just boring not as ironic as you intended.

Well, there's no proof that this guy is mentally ill. And, even if he is, you can't force anyone into treatment and/or to take their meds. How exactly did the mental health system fail him? If he did not get the help he needed as a minor, I would point more fingers at his parents.

I honestly didn't realize your rage went so far as to say "I want to fry him so bad, I'll pay the difference"

Seriously? YOU'RE ill.

You presented a problem; I provided a solution. Where did I say *I* will pay the difference? Cool it with the drama.

It wasn't a challenge. But I do worry about your mental capabilities that you viewed it as such. This exchange makes me want to be ill that you are out there somewhere, thinking about taking up collections from the public to kill someone because you want him off the Earth so badly.

OMG. Shut the fuck up with the drama. Are you afraid of your shadow, too? You continue with your sympathy march for the perp. I'm moving on.

NP here, PP, even those on this thread who agree with you in principle find that your replies have jumped the track. Get back on board and deal without the rage spittle, etc.

That is a real puzzler. Not sure why he admitted to this. The most I can come up with was that the apartment was his "last act" if he died at the scene.

It shows a certain level of remorse, maybe? Maybe he reasoned that the police would be nicer to him if he appeared to be trying to prevent more loss of life. The twisted calculations of a squirming, cornered loser: bullshitbullshitbullshit anyway he can to avoid personal responsibility.

This +1000. I am ashamed of the impulse I would have if I were there would be to just beat him senseeless. I had the same implies about Andrew Cunanan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Cunanan a purely evil prick who killed himself and cheated the justice system. Holmes is spoiled garbage. His "crazy" affect looks completely fake.

Cunanan's case is totally different from this one TOTALLY.

I think there are similarities. I think they both had an appreciation for right and wrong, however skewed. For that they deserve (d) to be placed out in the prison yard with the general population and let nature take its course.

I agree- but rather than try to rehab him he had premeditated this and was quite competent in society- he basically should not get off on mental illness. IMO

not guilty by reason of insanity could get him put into an institution for the rest of his life.

And to answer another question, yes - the Columbine guys were cuckoo for cocoa puffs. It may have been more sociopath crazy, but they most definitely were insane.

The Columbine guys were not crazy. They were jerks who weren't popular and were pissed they they were always getting picked on. They were cruel and wanted to go out with a "bang". Can't believe what I'm reading here. Is denial also a mental illness?

Dylan Klebold suffered from depression. Sometimes the destructive impulse that leads to suicide gets turned outwards to murder, instead. Dylan Harris was a sociopath. Neither were in good mental health.

well there are different kinds of "crazy" that people are mixing here.

For most people "crazy" are psychiatric diagnoses of schizophrenia and psychosis, but of course, as PPs pointed out, noone that kills scores of people is normal either. The people that do such things and are n the end not deemed insane still have personality disorders, often severe, antisocial, sociopaths etc. No conscience, no remorse is not normal.
But does the person know reality? That is the question.

Ted Bundy killed scores of women. He was a long-term mass serial killer, not a one-shot mass murderer. He was perfectly sane.

Bundy probably didn't have a thought disorder. He did have a personality disorder, either narcissism or anti-social personality disorder or sociopathy.

That's not perfectly sane.

Where did I say I was having a sympathy march? I want justice to be served. If he gets the death penalty, so be it. He did something wrong and evil, he will be punished.

But you are so enraged that you are talking about asking the public to help off the guy because you will accept nothing less. Do you realize how unstable you sound? People are angry, I get that. But you are twisted if you really think this is a reasonable line of thought.

I do hope a little sleep last night has calmed you down a little and made you rethink your plan/solution. If not and you still think YOU are the reasonable person in the room, I really do urge you to seek therapy. I don't know what your religious convictions are, but if you are Judeo-Christian, you're not acting like it. Get a handle on your emotions. Acknowledge your anger and talk to someone about it.
