That is a great attitude to teach your kids. Will serve them well in life. Who cares what the signs and rules say?

We have a rule at the pool and if the PP brought her 8 year old into the showers, I'd complain to the attendants to enforce that rule. Eight is way too old to be in the room where my five year old changes.
I'm the person that posted a few posts above yours about taking my 8 year old son into the women's locker room with my daughters and myself.
I understand that some people are not thrilled with an 8 year old boy being in the women's locker room. I'm certainly NOT trying to offend anyone!
But to be honest, I would much rather someone be momentarily embarrassed about a little boy seeing them nude than for my son to be molested in the men's locker room.
I have told my son not to stare at nude people while he's in there with us, and to be completely honest, he doesn't. While he is showering off he just talks to his sisters and myself. He's probably at least 3 to 4 years off from puberty. And I plan on having him use the men's locker room in a couple of years.

I have him walk through the men's room to come and go to the pool, but when he has to go to the bathroom, he needs my help with his wet bathing suit. So I take him into the women's room. The pool has a policy that children over 6 must use the gender appropriate bathroom, so my child is technically OK going into the women's room. However, there are many unclothed women and girls in there and he gawks at them, as much as I tell him to look straight ahead, do your business, and let's get out.
I don't want to make the other women uncomfortable. I have no idea if they are uncomfortable or not. Most are Asian and Russian immigrants and have I have no idea if cultural norms are different or not.
Should I help him practice with his swim suit so he can go to the bathroom by himself in the men's room? Am I making too big a deal of this?

An 8 year old boy is MUCH too old to be in a women's locker room where all the patrons are required to take a public nude soap shower, a 10 year old even more so. I would complain, loudly, to management, and probably say something angry to your face if it were a 10 year old. If you don't like/agree with the rules, fine--don't patronize that facility. But if you do, you need to abide by the rules.
As I mentioned, no-one has ever complained about my son being in the women's locker room, and as far as I can tell, no-one seems bothered by it. I have never received any comments or dirty looks from anyone in the locker room. The closest anyone ever seems to come to being "bothered" about my son being in there, is when an occasion a woman or girl makes an effort to face the opposite direction while they're showering.
The pool doesn't even have an age limit posted anywhere out in the open for children using opposite gender locker rooms. so, I don't know if it's against the rules for my 8 year old son to be in the women's locker room or not?

#2 I would not ask you to not go about your business the way that you choose when you're in the locker room. I too am making the point that it's no big deal for a little boy to be in the women's locker room while there are nude women in there, compared with what could happen if he was sent into the men's locker room by himself.
Lady -- this is a guy speaking. You seem to have some really weird notion about what's going on in that mythical "men's locker room".
It's guys changing. Very similar, I suppose, to the lady's locker room.
How do you envision anybody getting molested in a busy public room?
True, nobody can "guarantee that a child won't be molested" in a particular place. That, very sadly, is a fact of life. But don't pretend that the "men's locker room" is a scary place -- the statistical chance that a child gets molested in a private home (including his/her own home), is much higher.
Anyway. I understand you want to protect your child -- I have children myself. Just, realistically, there is really very little danger in a locker room in a public pool.

Anonymous wrote:How is your kid going to get molested in the mens locker room?
Kids get molested by people they know and by people their parents trust. The stranger-molester is rare, and a mens locker room is too crowded and busy.
Just let your kid learn some independence.
I for one am not going to accomodate you. I will strip in front of any old kid in the womens room and feel no shame
