Wow...

This topic really hits home for me. My older brother committed suicide in his 20s; he suffered depression over his height of 5'5 from taunts and rejection. My ds is predicted to be 5'4 and I swear I will always support him even when there are those heartless individuals out there who would love to break him down. OP, show your son love and he'll find his way

Unfortunately, looks matter, including for males. There are various studies supporting the positive correlation of male height and income, particularly in management and sales positions. Just this morning, there was a news report noting that appearing thin and fit seems to correlate with being hired as a CEO.

yikes - speak for yourself. Your friend was a doormat for letting you speak to her that way. So I guess she probably had other issues, starting with the people she surrended herself with. Yuck.

I like short men. Actually, I like men somewhere around my height, give or take a couple inches. But I don't think 5'4" would be a deal-breaker and keep me from falling in love if all else were right.

My sister is 5'0 and married to a great guy who is 5'4". Its all relative. It does drive her crazy when she gains a few lbs and is heavier than him though - I think he weights about 130 on a bad day and she is pretty curvy, and weighs 120.

I wouldn't worry about it much. My DH is just shy of 5'7 and he's sexy to me. I always favored tall men previously but when you fall in love, you fall in love. I think the key thing is to help your child have confidence in himself, however tall he is, however attractive he is, etc. Women are drawn to confidence (otherwise, how the HELL does Mick Jagger get so much booty?!!) Not that you're after getting booty for your son. But anyway. A confident man is attractive, regardless of his height.

BTW, there definitely are some anti short people on this site and in this city. A woman I know (who I KNOW is on this site) made some comment to me once about Tom Cruise and how he's hot but he's a little midget and etc. She knows my husband. I think (THINK) she just never realized that he is about the same size as Tom Cruise. but I have to say, I've been grossed out by her ever since. Not because i care what she thinks about short men, but because I think she's a clumsy asswipe. She also is the self-congratulatory type always talking about how she aced this run or posting pics about how "hot" she still is. So....when someone is dissing a person based on height, consider the source!

Now, for people who just prefer to date tall people, that's their preference. My husband always preferred short women, and I always preferred tall men. So, I'm 5'10" and he's as mentioned, 5'7'. True love often causes us to throw our goofy preferences out the window.

PS. OP, if all else fails, teach your child to play an instrument. It's sexier than money.

Very interesting thread. But we do know that the physical characteristics that attract us to one another are universal, crossing all cultures. The height in men thing is a primordial indicator of his strength and ability to provide for and protect children. In the modern world, a short guy can do that just as well, of course. But all of the hotties I knew who married the short guy eventually wound up in bed with the tall, handsome pool boy and ruined their marriages. Oh, well.
