I ordered some dye from madison reed 2 months ago , it covered my grey very well and has no obnoxious scent to it but with every wash I noticed some dye still got on my towels which really annoys me. The color fades pretty quickly too, I do not think its worth more than the average l'oreal/clairol etc touch up dye you can get at the drugstore. I will probably cancel my subscription this week.

Does anybody use Madison Reed? I constantly hear their ads. Reviews on their site seem to be mixed.

Every time I dye at home I make an insane mess -- black dye is hard to deal with -- but I just can't pay $90 every 4 weeks in a salon.

I do it at home. I have black towels I put down. They key is clean up immediately.

I have short dark hair, every four weeks I need to dye iit at a minimin. I cannot fathom laying as much as they charge or spending that much time every for weeks. When I do it at home, I do it at night.

95% gray here...and with dark brown hair, I have to dye the roots every 2 weeks! Using professional hair color and learning to color the roots myself at home was a total game changer. I could never have the patience to go to a salon and sit there for 1.5 hours twice a month.

I switched to getting lowlights and I don't have to worry about roots. But I still do have gray showing, it's just not as overwhelming.

I use the L'Oréal root touch up monthly, mostly around my forehead and part. Majority of my roots are still black, so I can get away with this. As I get grayer I'll go to a pro.

I'm 38 and started getting grays 10 years ago.

I have strays, not roots yet so I can do semi-permanent every 8 or 10 weeks and be fine. I'm sure that will change soon enough as I'm getting close to 40

Just spent over $150 to get my hair done 5 days ago, and my hair is growing so fast, the grey is showing all over the roots again.

I think it's time to face reality...there is too much of a difference in color between my grey and the color I am trying to be.

use naturcolor- great natural color- only one i can use- most people can do it at home but im disabled so go to a manhattan salon where very expensive but i go every five to six weeks and they use foild so the grey blends with the color-

look up naturcolor for any of you concerned about bad chems- looks great on me too

It was every 10 weeks, then as more gray came in, it ended up being every 6 weeks, then in between I started to do the roots, so it was every 3 weeks.

Then I quit. Month 2-5 was hell, because my dyed hair was so dark (it lightens after a few months). And by that time, the growth was out enough that people could tell that I wasn't being neglectful, but intentional.

I'm now 1.5 years in and just have about 2 inches of dyed hair at the bottom to go. I'll be done by spring, and at the length I want by next fall.

It looks good--most importantly, my face looks good--nothing makes your FACE look young like having the right shade of hair (and nature knows what shade).

Yes, people can tell my age, but I look healthy--attractive in the true sense of the word.

I'm just bringing this up for something to think about in the future, OP!

Around $200. Worth it for me. I am around 75% grey. When I am 100% grey I plan on going all white. Can't wait!

40 yrs old- 99% white when brunette every 2-3 weeks. Now I'm blonde now every 4-6 weeks

My hair is pretty healthy, went about 25% gray at 23 and have been dying the roots myself every week - 2 weeks since then. I get it colored at a salon every 6 months or so to maintain. My hair is thick so I use a full bottle on the roots. I use coconut oil treatments whenever my hair starts to feel damaged in between.
