Of course it would have made a difference. one child would be dead instead of 4 (not that one is any less valuable than all 4 together). Which means that the children (and the mom) were living off of child support (if their fathers aren't in jail) or welfare. That leaves her almost 25 years (give or take) to have more children that someone else is going to be paying for. So yeah, having that many at her age in her situation was extremely stupid. A poor 26 year old female living in a trailer park could just as easily be white, latino, asian, native American, or black. Frankly, the least likely is asian based on statitics and the fact that this was in the rural south of the U.S. Besides, statistically, in this day and age, younger females (uner 30 perhaps? Not sure baout age brackets) are more likely to have children without being married. Percentage wise, I'll bet more white people live in trailers/trailer parks than people of any other skin color or ethinicty.

Weren't we all read the riot act the other day for judging a local family who had 2/5 children killed in preventable accidents? One child drowned in a pool they didn't have a fence around, another died after the dad fell asleep driving the car the entire family was in, all of them unbuckled. Yet, when some people pointed out that these were poor parenting decisions that directly led to their children's death, we were all told to quit being hateful and judgmental. So why is it okay to put a wall of understanding around an upper middle class white family from here, but not around the young mother of 5 in Louisiana?

No one would disagree that it is obviously terrible to leave a 2 YO without adult supervision. No one would defend this mother or any other for that. I judge that. And I find it deplorable.

What is objectionable is the characterizations of the mother's sexual behavior, about which we reallly have no facts. And the items you list above - she wasn't working - she was on welfare - suggesting father in jail. You don't know any of that. You are speculating.
