One of the posters described herself as being an older mom for having her child at age 34. I would consider this the average age, neither younger or older. I know it's a matter of opinion but in regards to this discussion I'm just wondering how others are defining.

That might have been me....I was pregnant at 34 and had child 1 month after I turned 35. I was pregnant with the second at 37..had him one month after turning 38. I definitely think that is an older mom---though very average age in my neighborhood. Some moms my age second born is the age of my firstborn--- most moms with kids my age amour schools (preschool and K) are about the same age as me. A few outliers, but we are all very close in age. Moms who started in their 20s are practically unheard of in my parts.
I am one of those that met DH at 25- but purposely waited to have kids for almost a decade. Theoretically Imay have wanted to be done at the age I had my first,but my workplace did not have work at home at that time. It started right before I got pregnant. I am glad I waited for this reason.
I think there is a trend for more telework and flexibility so I think more women may start slightly earlier than woman my age did in the future.

To the poster who said that 27 year old and 44 year olds have nothing in common - I guess I just don't get that. I've always had friends of different ages - makes life interesting.

Yes, I definitely wish I had kids younger. Unfortunately I did not find my DH until I was around 32. I got married at 34 and we started trying immediately (actually a little bit before we even married because we were both so excited to have kids) but unfortunately had infertility issues and did not have a child until I was 39. If life had worked out how I had "planned" it I would have been married at 28 and had my first kids at 29 and my second kid at 31. On the other hand, the infertility struggle has made me very grateful for what I have. I feel lucky to have a kid at all...even though I feel like I am a ton older than I wanted to be.

I started at 22, and it is a good thing, because I had to have a hysterectomy at age 33.

I don't wish I were younger -- I had my three in my 30's. My issue is my DH who's much older than me. He's going to be 70 by the time the last one is off to college. I just worry that won't leave us many years to enjoy being empty nesters, let alone grandparents. Ah well, you can't always time these things.

I had children at 34 and 36. My parents had me when they were in their mid-to-late thirties. What makes me sad is that this adds up to a large age difference between grandparents and grandchildren. My parents aren't able to play or engage with their grandchildren as much as they'd like. And both of my parents need someone to help take care of things for them. Their health isn't too bad, but they are deteriorating noticeably over the years, and their minds are slowing down quite a bit. It's completely natural and expected that roles shift over time, and that we become responsible for taking care of our parents. However, having that happen when our kids are so young, and need a lot of our hands-on attention, has been hard. People age differently, and there are no guarantees, but I do hope that I'm younger than my parents were when (if) our kids have children. My parents really wish they were better able to spend more time with our kids, and I'm feeling like part of the sandwich generation much younger than I thought I would.

You either have family money or a DH that makes a lot of money, to have been able to afford both a house in McLean and to have a baby at only 26. Which is it?
We have a, get ready for it, a small rambler house in mclean, OH NO the horror!!!! Its cause we aren't scum bag lawyers or old money inheritance people
