How did you family get over here? Show your documentation how your family legally came to the US (unless you are native American).

Under your logic, no country should ever be able to protect its borders because at some time they did not exist as a country and therefor its citizens are not real citizens. It doesn't hold water.

Not pp but I'm white and a somewhat liberal independent. My mother's family came over here in the late 1600's (county in VA named for them) and my father's family came over a couple of centuries later legally on a British passport. Both families worked hard and my father spent 37 years in the US armed forces of this country fighting in three wars to protect and ensure your freedoms. What have you done?

Gee, such adjectives! Guess what, there are illegal immigrants serving in the military - right now - to ensure our freedoms, too. And surprise surprise many illegal immigrants work hard also.

What else ya got?
What else?? You mean that what daddy did is not enough to buy our adulation for his progeny?

I believe that their children will be fully assimilated into American culture and will consider the U.S. their homeland, and it pains me to think that many of them of will be denied the opportunity to go to college or pursue their professional dreams because of bigoted people that don't see these kids as our future leaders and stewards of our country. Instead, I see a future with an ever widening gap between the haves and have-nots.

#1-Your grandparents were wrong to come here illegally.
#2-They righted the wrong by becoming citizens.
#3-The US does not "owe" anyone the right to a better life.
#4-Lots of illegals don't want to fit in. They wear their home flag proudly (which they should) and have a sense of entitlement about what they should and shouldn't get. Some have a disdain for America and Americans.
#5-In this thread (or the other) there was research done that showed that the children of illegal parents only finished school up to the 10th grade. Not exactly the leaders of tomorrow.
#6-Illegal immigrants hurt the have-nots more than the haves, because all they do is exploit them.

An I-9 is a condition of employment. An illegal alien must lie on the form and provide false documentation which is a felony, which make him/her a criminal.

10:27 here again.

I will attach to my new laws the following:

For a period of 6 months to a 1 year, illegal aliens currently in the US can report to immigration offices and those who report are granted amnesty. Any who don't report obviously aren't interested in becoming legal and will face consequences of the law if they are exposed.

I am not in favor of illegal immigration either, and I doubt that anyone is. The question is what to do about it. The two easiest solutions to think of are "Throw them out" and "Ignore the law". The first is logistically impossible and the second is politically impossible, so the issue is how do we find a reasonable middle ground?

No pp, but my solution:

-Re-amend the 14th Amendment to include phrasing that at least 1 parent of a child born in the US must be a citizen in order for said child to be considered a citizen.
-In the case of green card holders, permanent residents, etc, the child will take the same status. As long as the parents stay legal, the child is granted full US citizenship at age 18.
-Make illegal immigration a criminal offense punishable by jail time (1 year) followed by immediate deportation.
-NO benefits of any kind to illegal immigrants and their children.
-Give law enforcement the right to check immigration status during routine traffic stops.
-Fine employers of illegal immigrants $100,000 per offense if they are reported and found guilty of employing illegal aliens. Make this a debt that CAN NOT be discharged in bankruptcy.
