I have YET to see a woman around here in tennis whites who looks even part way decent in them. Cover up, PLEASE! Especially around food......

Simple question: I live in Chevy Chase and was curious what club is considered to have the best membership (i.e., fun people, not stuffed shirts)?

I have nothing against the tennis whites, but 10:50 has a point, these gals don't look too sweaty. So it does make you wonder what their story is. And *YOU* need to get your hands on a Title 9 or Athleta catalog, there are plenty of cute workout clothes available these days.


And I can do a "one better" than the tennis whites --- one summer day I was in the Giant and a woman walks by with her cart and children wearing a thong bathing suit with one of those very sheer sarong type things tied around her waist. Everyone had a view of her ass.

You are right, I think women who wear pink tennis dresses around town also look funny. The thing that is funny about it is that the dresses make the ladies look like cheerleaders -- and I would think it unusual if a cheerleader wore her uniform to run errands as well. Plus, people who really exercise sweat (or glow) and most of them don't want to stay in their sweaty clothes. So there is a bit of an assumption that a woman wearing tennis whites around town are more interested in the cute outfits than playing the game.

I never gave much thought to the women running around in their tennis whites until my DD started school. One morning, my poor cityboy, ill-bred husband and I had jointly paid a visit to the school on our way out a tennis mom was on her way in. It was chilly and she had pulled a brightly colored pullover over her whites, my husband looked at me and asked "Is that Cheerleader Mom?"

So if you see me giggle at tennis whites, it is not you, but my silly @ss husband who at middle age still has cheerleaders on the brain.

At least we can generally assume that someone in tennis white has been or is about to play tennis! Many people in yoga pants, on the other hand, have probably never seen the inside of a yoga studio

We don't all play at clubs. In Moco we're lucky that there are plenty of public tennis courts, and for some folks on some days it's just more efficient to run errands on your way home from a game. As a PP noted, it's no different from th folks you see at the grocery store, Target, hardware store or Office Depot in running shorts, yoga pants . . . or swanky work clothes.

I don't think the hostility is ridiculous. I think it's warranted. Have enough respect for the game (and yourself) to change before you leave the club.

I don't play tennis so I don't wear tennis whites. But I for the life of me can't understand the hostility here. Many clubs require tennis whites. So you think these people should change clothes before leaving the tennis court so you don't get offended. I see it as no different than women who wear work out clothes around town after working out. I certainly don't like to see women with hot bodies at my grocery store while I am reaching for the Ben & Jerry ice cream, but please get a grip. The hostility is ridiculous.
