Are you Jewish or another minority? The only Jewish or minority families I know that belong there are very Republican. It’s a bit outdated in that way. Try Congressional, Kenwood, or even Columbia. They attract a more progressive and more sophisticated crowd. Congressional is where my cousins take their clients when they are in town.

Congressional and Columbia have wonderful golf courses, but comments that Chevy Chase's is average or even worse are far off the mark. Where the big tournaments play is irrelevant to Chevy Chase; they would not accept a big tourney although occasionally a tournament like the Maryland amateur championship will play there. The Chevy course is lovely and beautifully maintained. Any golfer would be happy to play there on a regular basis. It is being enhanced by a new multi-million $ year round golf performance center about to open. (Beautiful building featuring high tech performance measuring equipment, 4 heated bays opening to the outdoor driving range.) In 2017, Golf Digest ranked the best golf courses in the whole state of MD. Congressional was #1, Burning Tree #7, Columbia #8, Chevy Chase #9. In other words, Congressional was a clear #1, and the others were closely grouped. And they all ranked ahead of hundreds of other MD courses. In terms of the quality of the Chevy Chase Club as a whole, the Platinum Clubs national club rating system rates all of the country clubs in the country - ALL 50 states. The latest rating rated Congressional #1 in the country, Chevy Chase # 11 in the country, Columbia #94 in the country. Just Google Platinum Clubs of America if you want to see the full list. Personally, I think picking Congressional as the best country club in the US is a bizarre result.

Congressional is actually more elite and more exclusive. Chevy is a more provincial local neighborhood crowd.

Chevy is also cheaper to join, which is why they try market it as being more exclusive. Otherwise they could raise the initiation fee to Congressional levels -- simple market dynamics. As of October 1, the initiation fee was $92k for resident membership versus Congressional's $120k. Chevy annual dues are a bit more than Congressional, though, but only by a couple hundred per month.

They're all better than Bethesda "we beg for new money members" CC.

I agree. I love Columbia and Congressional courses. Several friends that belong to Chevy usually golf with friends at the other two clubs.
