Location aside, who will be the principal? Isn't that more important than space?

The school wants to have kids from across DC. If the school locates in anything other than the very best building and neighborhood, that will not be possible. Metro accessible, yes. First-class space purchase, yes.

Also the primary goal was to have neighborhood schools of reasonable walking distances. Again, once you're of high school age I think transportation is the least of your worry. The average schools are on main line bus route.

Given that some DCPS buildings date from the 1880s, it seems a bit of a stretch that 19th century school planners could have predicted the building of the Metro. Right?

Aren't mostly all DCPS schools metro accessible? It is not twisted and wrong, moreso thought provoking.

Where ever the school locate, I hope it is in walking distance to a subway. Any subway. It can be Howard Road, Eastern Market, Rhode Island Avenue or Petworth. Just please, please, please make it metro accessible.

right because making sure that the very best schools good to the locations that are most deparately in need of them is just an awful, awful thing. So much better to leave those neighborhoods underserved and expect the kids to come into other neighborhoods for a decent education.

I tell you why, they want Basis to settle in Ward 7 because it will be shiney and new. So, it will attract the large African-American population who reside in Ward 7.

We all know the true school boundaries that incorporate Eastern High School encompasses Ward 7 which puts a damper on the neighborhood nuances of Ward 6.

In other words if "they" go to Basis then it will leave "us" to have Eastern all to ourselves like the early 1950's.

Eh, still doesn't sound to me like Basis claiming to do "miraculous " things. But maybe its just me...

I have never seen Basis portray themselves this way. Find me a source, please.

"Our city has an opportunity to open a school here that will not only get our students up to grade level, but empower them to compete with the best students in the world," says Mary Siddall, Chair of the Committee to bring a BASIS School to DC. Siddall, a DC resident and parent, was committed to bringing a top nationally ranked open enrollment school to Washington, DC. "DC students deserve a world-class educational option," says Siddall, "and BASIS has proven it can deliver."
