That does not strike me as a reason not to have test-in schools.

I also think there are test-in options where you reserve spots for kids from different middle schools and/or wards and/or income levels. Lots of options could be explored.

I don’t see why people should waste so many resources in selective schools for parents and kids who can’t clear the lowest bar to show up to free tutoring.

DC just has too many test in schools, that should almost be the default. That would also release pressure on Banneker, McKinley, and Walls

You need to elect very different people if you want test-in schools. People like Janeese Lewis George would gouge their eyes out. They are in the business of lowering academic standards. It's the only way they know how to erase racial disparities in academic achievement. It's dumb but it's the government we've chosen.

People on the far left believe test-in schools are racist because they end up being dominated by white and Asian students.

Lol when it’s not just ‘hard work’ that gets you into these schools.
Try sending your kid to a sh*t school without supplemental support and see if they can easily get in through ‘hard work.’

I am Asian and I do not think it’s racist to have to get into a school but I do think ignoring the systemic failures is at the very least problematic.

It is “just” hard work. Even moreso when they’re at a bad school and you sit around the table every night doing work as a family to supplement. These tests aren’t the IMO, they aren’t even the SAT. They are directly a function of how much GAF you have, and yes, culturally, immigrants (exemplified by Asians, but also true of Eastern European, West Indian, and African immigrants) are willing to sacrifice more for academics.

When schools get rid of standardized tests, they get less diverse economically and less diverse overall. Getting rid of tests is really just a cope for upper middle class people playing the victim card,

This is DC. No one cares about effort. The only reason anyone does well or does poorly is because they have unfair advantages or disadvantages.

Well don’t care about effort because we only care about results.

Thanks, Beavis.

Well - it may not be hard work as sourced from the kid’s inherent initiative, but a constellation of family/cultural expectation + supplement networks/pathways that ends up manifesting as “hard work.”

Just Asians really. Let’s not pretend they don’t have real separation from white folks when it comes to test scores.

But I’m all for Asians having the test-in schools that reward hard work, while the rest of us can cruise through at GDS with Duffie and crew.

We don’t want to compete!

I'm Asian and I want this as well.

I’m not Asian or white, but I tell the truth!
