I imagine if you did a poll of the SR 27 parents that they would give mixed reviews of Capital despite some good college destinations. The refusal to make changes to the 27 team to make it better like they have done previous years is still head scratching. The BLC 27 team was so good, but Cap made some questionable roster decisions. Politics I guess were at play which is a big negative. Capital may have lost its touch with some Montgomery Country families after strong 25 and 26 teams.

This may be a bit overstated, but I think girls from Montgomery County are increasingly looking for other options. As an example, I just looked at the SR team roster to see where their club players are going.

2026: Sky Walkers 2, Capital Blue 1
2027: M&D Black 1, 3 Capital Blue, 2 Capital Orange
2028: 3 Heroes Green
2029: 1 Heroes Green, 1 Capital Blue, 3 M&D DC

You have also seen girls from Visi, GC and SJC playing at M&D Black, Skywalkers and Heroes. Capital offers a good option, but it is not nearly as dominant as it has been in the past.

Why are there not more SR girls on M&D DC if their coach is the recruiting coordinator?

We are a cap family but that doesn't mean I don't think that everyone shouldn't try and maximize their situation.

Even if my kid could have made M&D, I definitely wouldn't have wanted to drive to St. Paul's (or wherever) for practice. By the end of 8th grade, I had enough of Maryland "up-and-backs" for NGLL. But I probably would have if my kid was as good as the Visi sisters or I lived in Montgomery County.

Most people who say they are not interested are worried about not making it. There are totally exceptions, but usually those girls are considered the best or one of the best players in the country.

So why are they even trying out? To take a spot from someone else?

Options are a good thing. What is the alternative for the 2030s in the DC area? Or is this intended more as a forward looking, speculative statement?

Travel lax is also a requirement if you want to play at a competitive high school. That said, here is the way is typically breaks down:

Cap Blue-- 90% to D1, 10% to D3
Cap Orange -- 10% to DI; 70% to D2/D3 or Opt Out
Stars - 15% to D3
MD DC -- TBD but probably similar to YJ
YJ--25% to D1

Not sure if this helps, but depending on you and your daughters goals, you can plan accordingly.

These stats are sooooo wrong !! How can they possibly help anyone? Good lord - do you think we dont have google?
