Change happens. You paid a real estate agent and a home seller for your home, not MCPS. It turns out that actually you are part of a county and a society, not your own little district.

You obviously know nothing. We have been promised construction and refresh of the high school for years. I heard about it when my kids were in elementary school in 2009. They're now both about to finish college. Wootton was supposed to be refreshed when my older child was a freshman, which was in 2017. The school board kept on delaying it. So they caused the obsolescence and then used it as an excuse.

Many of us were promised many things and it hasn't happened. Right now, there is a brand new building near you, you are saying that the school facility is terrible so why wouldn't you want it. You don't even have kids that will be impacted by this. Your kids are adults.

. Why would the board close a school that has consistently been one of the top 10 schools in the nation. That's why housing prices were high. People wanted to move to this area to go to that school. Housing prices reflected that. So thanks to the Board of Education. The value of my house just dropped.

I’m with ya that Wootton housing prices are so high because people want to send their kids to a top high school. But I’m lost as to how your house just dropped when you’re still in that Wootton district?

I’m lost as to why they believe the school district cares. Home prices are not in their purview nor considered when making school boundary decisions

Willing to bet lots of parents want to opt out of required indoctrination. 8 year olds don’t need to know about LBGT issues

Nope. Very few actually ever opted out. Just mostly created more work for teachers and schools.

It is not the same school. They are losing Cold Spring ES (super low FARMS) to Churchill and gaining Fields Rd ES (high FARMS) It will not be Wootton Patriots on Wootton Parkway. It will be Crien High school mikes away.

And even still, people paid to live in neighborhoods that had 3 walkable schools. High achieving schools. I don’t think that should be a reason not to move a school.

but I can understand those that are upset that the county wasted millions and millions of dollars building a school. Wasted more millions on boundary studies and setting up 7 options to the public to help alleviate over capacities at so many schools. Only to throw in an 8th option last minute and pick it. Such a dirty crappy thing to do to a community.

All that money could have been spent redoing Damascus, Magruder, and Wootton. We all know there was a ton of back door deals and lining pockets. It’s clearly obvious they waste our tax dollars on bogus reports.

We ALL KNOW with the way the county builds and builds, schools will be over capacity in a short few years. We all know MCPS can not budget our tax dollars. We know the county is too large and money is wasted left and right.

We are now looking at a 6% housing tax increase that is supposedly going to MCPS. One of the richest counties in the country and the money is wasted on bloated administration that can’t do crap. I’m sick of paying taxes for MCPS who can’t even figure out snow days. They are completely inept.

And has anyone asked before they raise taxes AGAIN where all the casino money is going? Because we were told lies.

I would love an independent audit hired indeorndently, NOT the county. I would happily pay extra taxes for that.

You wanna make MCPS the villain, you gotta stop with this noise. FRES isn’t even a title I school. I’m happy to pay the taxes too if the end result is 1800 fewer Wootton alums looking down their noses at kids who grew up with slightly less.

Anonymous wrote:If Wootton becomes a holding school, the traffic on Wootton Parkway will be a complete nightmare. Right now 1/3 of students walk/bike and only 2 buses come from the Falls Rd area. They have already lost all the student parking in the old lot across the street as they are building new housing. City of Rockville will remove the permit parking in Fallsmead because it’s no longer for their neighborhood. There will be one small lot for juniors/seniors to park and I guarantee every neighbor will report cars parking behind the baseball field, frost and other locations they kinda just let happen before because it was their community.

And you think the traffic was bad before? At least people were coming from Scott Dr, and both sides of Wootton. Now an entire school of students will be busing and driving in one way on a one way road. All while neighborhood kids are still walking to Frost in crosswalks and thru the school parking lot.

Thank the lord above they are moving this school! Forget the black mold and asbestos! I’m more concerned about my kids getting exposed to these “neighbors” who want to call the cops on the black and brown kids from Magruder for trying to go to school.

They aren’t higher than any other area with equal size and lots.

Lots of community people for their own interests. Most families are probably fine with it.

They’re “legacy” Wootton people. Some have stated on here they want to preserve the “heritage” of Wootton 🙄 but also it’s about their property values which to them are more important than the health of future students.

yeah. I dont have a dog in this hunt but the more I read about it, this isn't bad. The old building is a dump I hear, just a degraded shell. The name and history go with the move, like a NFL team (sometimes).

the elementary school split thing is a little wonky, but, hey its probably the best of bad choices.

If I was a walker to former Wooton I'd be unhappy, but not unhappy enough to pitch in more than about $3.50 suing over it. I need about tree-fiddy.
