Exactly.

Most people would rather hear it directly from the person rather than through the grapevine.

Exactly what? Why would someone you haven’t talked to in two years care? Nobody is inviting people to their wedding that haven’t talked to in years.

Do you know what is meant by “through the grapevine”?

If you had decent communication skills and were worried about the "grapevine" you wouldn't just drop a pic with no text around it to someone you haven't even spoken with in 2 years.

What motivates such a text from a 27 year old woman and what reaction is she looking for?

Who cares

Likely that she’s totally off the market and the one who got away. Ie to rub it in. Or he can make his move now or forever hold his peace!

Why? It didn't occur to me to look up any ex and let him know I was formally off the market. Like a normal person I had moved on and the past was the past.

Her text is no more or less overinvolved with your son than is your son describing it to you.

ESH.

According to him....you don't know her side. Perhaps she just wanted him to know? Why do you care?

I have a sorority sister like this and 15 or so years ago she snuck off and slept with her ex boyfriend while she and her new fiancé were visiting her parents during Thanksgiving or Christmas. So diabolical. I think she was even caught or at least the fiancé suspected something was up but she still ended up marrying the fiancé the next summer.

Without additional context it’s hard to say if this young lady is just fishing for attention or coyly trying to open the door for dialogue and a potential rendezvous. If he wants to cut to the chase: Don’t text back, call her.

Unless she’s literally waiting by her phone hoping he calls, a screenshot of that incoming call is going straight to her girlfriend group chat. A committee will workshop how she responds.
