SEAD is a pretty large division that manages a lot within DCPS...Things that fall under the purview of SEAD includes, all of the school counselors, all of NAF/CTE Programs, all College related things including dual enrollment, SAT, school based college applications, graduation progress for schools, JROTC, Athletics, scheduling, student engagement, programs like credit recovery and twilight, 9th grad academies...I'd imagine providing oversight over all of these things would be great preparation to lead a school after several years of serving as an assistant principal at another application high school.
This is helpful context, thanks. Part of the problem is that SEAD is a TERRIBLE TERRIBLE name for a department and is totally unintelligible for people who don't live and breathe DCPS central office. I'm going to reframe it in my head as "academics and social emotional development." And I hope she is good for Walls - the school could really use a thoughtful, capable leader with some vision.

No interims do not panel. They are placed there by central office. They will have to panel next year for the permanent job.

Why are you so upset about someone going back to support and lead a school? Grow up.
They're aware that their central office positions are most likely on the chopping block with the departure of the chancellor (and one of the 2 deputy chancellors asap) and the likelihood of a new mayor who is very different in terms of the current DCPS status quo and thus are trying to scurry away to the schools before reorganizations leave them without a cushy job. Not a bad ploy but definitely not "want to go back to the schools" sainthood here.

Just kinda shitty to see people just assume anyone who wants to lead a school and doesn’t take a linear path that suits your narrative is a conniving free-loader looking for a cushy job instead of a chance to serve. Dr. Little sounds fine for a regular DCPS school, but she does not sound like the dynamic leader or gifted academic that Walls needs. I'm glad she's interim.
Glen Starnes is lame. He has had oversight of DCIAA. That tells you all you need to know about him.
