Were there a lot of protestors who previously voted for Trump just last Nov? Otherwise what's the basis to say the election doesn't reflect what we are as a country / what people wanted?

Plenty may not be MAGA by whatever definition but are basically "okay" with it as they voted for it it did not vote. Sorry nothing else matters.

Most of the American people would love (and vote for) more free and subsidized benefits. The problem is they find the values, tone, and demeanor of the D’s to be largely distasteful.

All Democrats would have to do is (1) promise said free and subsidized benefits (2) nominate a candidate who is dull and respectable and (3) SOMEhow put a lid on their crazies. The R’s will generally shoot themselves in the foot on their own.

#3 is nearly impossible at this point. If it can’t be managed, say hello to President Vance in a few years.

Democrats are absolutely blind to the way the general public sees day to day matters (and these recent protests are an EXCELLENT example of that) and it is why they lose elections. But the democrat way to “make life better” is to increase things the government provides. Free this, free that, etc. I think most people don’t want to see a bunch of social programs ran by the government (at the expense of those that pay taxes).

The function of government is to provide services and programs that individuals can’t provide on their own. I’m happy to pay taxes so we can have national parks and accurate weather forecasting. The majority of Americans like Social Security and Medicare. Do you want the full burden of caring for your elderly parents for 20+ years?

I know that it seems nuts, but what if we tax all of the hyper rich in an appropriate manner? We could tax wealth and income at a much higher rate and still probably be way lower than most 1st world countries, then use that money to benefit Americans.

Put down the Ayn Rand and pick up an economics textbook. The real job creators in this country are consumers. Job creation still hasn’t returned to the level of the early Carter years, despite forty years of tax cuts and the hyper-rich accumulating enormous amounts of wealth and economic power. They haven’t invested their capital in a way that validates this narrative.

+1 eventually our whole economy will be based on expensive healthcare (the industry will be our biggest employer); housing mortgage/banking and insurance industries will also prevail. And those with extra funds for education will pay for it. The rest will go to underfunded public schools. Smaller businesses that cater to the middle class will suffer people there don’t be much discretionary income to support them. Someone has to help keep movie theaters, coffee and cream shops, boutiques, etc. in business.

Unless we like that situation, being slaves to corporations that drain our last few dollars out of us (pay up if you want to live) we will need universal healthcare as well as a housing market and university system that doesn’t turn citizens into indentured servants (and with AI monitoring us, that’s where we’re headed).
