Her son did well enough to land an internship and job offer with a VC. The job fell through because of lack of funding.

The appropriate comp to Ross here is McIntire - undergrad. Not sure which is better though I believe Ross is direct admit while you don't start in McIntire until junior year so you could choose UVA for McIntire then not get in - I think it is something like 50% admitted?

Also, check above but I think the job was at a VC-funded company, not a VC. I might be wrong and it doesn't make a huge difference. But just noting.
