I would actually say don't send her to BASIS (and we are there). Academically average kids end up getting very stressed and depressed.

The two bolded items don't necessarily make them a bad fit for BASIS. DCUM is as reliable on BASIS as Twitter is on political matters.

Shy, introverted kids (read: quirky) are the rule and not the exception at BASIS. There tends to be less clique and cool kid garbage than at other MS. Kids who are good at art or music or academics are lauded for accomplishments more so than at other schools.

What does "academically average" mean for a 4th grader in a DC school? How do you know? BASIS is for sure a heavy lift academically, but there are a TON of resources available to help kids succeed. 1/3 of 5th grade is nothing but teaching executive functioning. Don't pigeonhole your kid at 9 years old.

For sure BASIS does NOT excel in the arts. The music and drama and art teachers are wonderful but arts are not a focus. I am jealous of SH's drama program and the wide range of arts offerings. No doubt about it.

If you want to learn more about BASIS (warts and all), please reach out to the school and ask to be put in touch with the parent groups. Many of us will tell it to you straight. I have counseled as many parents away from BASIS as I have towards it.

No, you don’t have to re-lottery. You have to re-enroll by a particular deadline in the spring, but current students have the right to re-enroll.

Yep! They moved to Aspen Street at the site of the Baptist church.

Going to be honest that's going to be a nightmare if you don't walk. It's a traffic choke point especially with RTO and across from an existing school and there's a preschool a block away at the other church. Their presentation was completely goofy basically saying traffic wouldn't be impacted. Neighbors were already unhappy and I think if they move there's going to be some tension.

Yeah neighbors complained but it’s coming. Bethune already has signs up.

The “not waitlisted” means you didn’t get in because you had it lower than CM. Not that you aren’t on a waitlist.

You don’t get to pick between these schools. However if you do want Bethune, you can do a post lottery app.

Thank you - that was my understanding too. Would I have to decline the CMI offer to apply to Bethune via post lottery app? Someone else asked about our waitlist numbers for our top two selections - both in the 60s for LAMB and EW Stokes Brookland.

No you can enroll and then go post lottery to my understanding.

Realistically, doesn't look like we'll get into Inspired based on previous years (and even then, aftercare likely won't be available, so may not work out even if we get a late spot). May just bite the bullet and go with Langley and try the lottery next year.

You might get Seaton, I don't know if it's any better. And remember they are both having renovations but on different timelines. Seaton's is first.

My DD was at Langley for PK and it was really nice.
