DP but the news program I was watching indicated the last person she was with was not in the group of her girlfriends that went together.
The last person she was with was a male, who has been identified. He apparently did not raise an alarm that she may have drowned. I have not seen it clarified if he was a local or tourist.
CNN said he was also a tourist. Sounded like he passed out and maybe assumed she went back to the room? So no one realized til later she was missing.

Of course the story by the man last seen with her is suspicious. A body has not washed up. Locals may be happy not to investigate a possible crime too strongly so as to protect tourism.

I'm a parent of a son and a daughter. If you noticed, I said "And teach..."
Like it or not, there are bad folks in this world. Drinking with strangers in a foreign country can be very unsafe. Same for swimming with sharks in early a.m.

For example, if the guy did pass out, did someone else see him asleep at beach in those early hours? What does he look like, what was he wearing, etc.
And of course these spring breakers are back at school, making the time wasted more problematic.
This, and what is also frustrating is that power was spotty/sporadic at the resort all last week. These kids might have been out and about with dead phones where they might normally have juice if the resort was functioning properly. A better digital footprint could've helped.

Because they’re probably under the influence of illegal substances and didn’t want to go to the police yet ….maybe not but that’s just one theory. Remember these are kids not adults using adult brains.
If still acting like kids, then shouldn't be going to unfamiliar crime-ridden countries, drinking, hooking up with strangers, not safely sticking together, etc. Asking for trouble. "Friends" were useless.

The lack of details is not helpful. I now read that this male on camera on the beach 4 hours after the other friends left.
