Those on the waitlist do have a chance, most schools take at least a couple kids and if someone gets in, it might as well be your child. So if you care, contact the school, reiterate the reasons why that school is your top choice, why it would be a great fit for your child (add in any new accomplishments since apps were due), suggest how your child/you would be involved there (sports, service, drama, newspaper, etc.) and flat out state your child will attend if given a spot. Good luck!
+2 My DC attends a private k-8. DC was rejected from Maret for 9th, despite the fact that “Maret waitlists everyone.” It was their first choice. They were very upset and I told them to just tell their friends they were waitlisted. No one has to know it was a rejection. WL at GDS and Field too.
I'm hearing a lot of reports like this from our K-8 families. A lot of surprises.
Anonymous wrote:Did anyone get in off of waitlists last week? Or will the schools on spring break last week go to the waitpool this week? I figured to the extent there was any chance, it would be after decisions were required. We are likely not interested in a space after June 1st and I would like to just expectation set (and shift my kid’s mindset) as soon as possible.

Anonymous wrote:This idea that schools waitlist everyone instead of rejecting some of them is unsupported by any facts or knowledge.
Of course, putting an applicant in the wait pool doesn’t cost the school anything and it does give them a wider selection of applicants if they do need to go to the pool to fill shortfalls in enrollment.
But at the same time it is dishonest and and these schools are not staffed with cynical people without standards. They know a rejection stings but at the same time it frees the applicant up to pursue other options.

Gonzaga, one of the largest and least expensive schools, did not go to their waitlist for a single candidate. That evidence flies in the face of the theory that fewer accepted students will attend because of financial pressures or uncertainty.
