MAGA and I paid nearly 400k in taxes last year and will pay more this year. I don't feel like I get 400k worth of services from the government.

You aren't feeling joy for all the people you got laid off, and all the ones you are cutting from Medicare?

Who is getting cut off from Medicare? Citations.

Anyone who is receiving “fraudulent” payments. So whomever Elon wants to cut off.

No essential workers working without pay either. Shut it all down.

Why are you punishing actual working Feds. No pay for congress, senate or Doge.

Absolutely agree. And all the currently employee Feds need to stand up and scream that and protest when a shutdown does happen. Not to mention all the adjacent industries that will be impacted further.

No federal employees need to people what they do and what that means. Like no pediatric cancer research, no monitoring of earthquakes faults, no information on fuel loads built up in federal forests, etc.

Wait, a CR requires 60 votes in the Senate? Unlike the reconciliation bill?

Then a shutdown is guaranteed.

If the House GOP passes this budget, then Dems gotta make life hell for the 29 GOP House members who won with the narrowest of margins. Gotta hope that the AZ CD with 60+% of the population on some form of Medicaid (may be a lot of seniors in nursing homes) are fired up and ready to go.

There is zero chance 217 House Republicans agree on a budget - any budget.

Trump will definitely start playing with his cards with those who vote No and they will cave.

Except he only needs one holdout from a blur/purple district where Trump is polling below 40% and Feds are being laid off to blow that plan up. And they are approx 18 such Rs.

The GOP is laughable.

“The Republicans have been in good faith on negotiations on the funding issues all along, and the Democrats have had completely unreasonable conditions assigned to this," Johnson said. "They want us to limit the power of the executive branch. They want us to stipulate in the appropriations bills, for the first time in history, that certain agencies in the executive branch would have to have a specific number of employees — all sorts of just unreasonable, what I think are unconstitutional, demands. There'll be a violation of separation of powers. So we're pretty far apart right now, but it is not because the Republicans. It's because of the Democrats.“

On the positive side, the Democrats are demanding the right things and they have leverage.

What leverage? The GOP is voting in lockstep.

They got an outline of a bill through. One that would likely cause 25-30 centrists Rs to lose their seats over Medicare cuts. The Rs never vote in lockstep on anything substantive. Which is why Johnson has never passed a budget bill without relying on a MAJORITY of Dems to vote for it.

The GOP is herding cats. Massive is out. They have zero votes to lose and the Freedom caucus to placate with decimating Medicaid while promising their 25-30 centerists they won’t decimate Medicaid and lose the House.

And budget hawks being asked to vote for a bill that gives away 4T in tax cuts to oligarchs.

No, the GOP will not be voting in lockstep. It will be a sh*tshow, like… remember that time all business in Congress stopped because it took them 3 weeks to vote on a Speaker. It will be that. Except then they had 7-8 votes to spare. Here they can afford one defection. And one defection has already come forward.

So they are depending on the Freedom Caucus and the purple district moderate to both vote on a wildly unpopular bill that guts Medicaid and explodes the deficit they have made their primary message to give tax cuts to billionaires, but not eliminate taxes on tips, social security, etc.

And then there are the showboat wildcards like Bobert and MTG they cannot lose who will pull outrageous stunts that make everything worse.

And we have yet to discuss the Senate. Unless this goes through reconciliation, they need 60 votes.

But sure… lockstep.

Pops popcorn. Figures 3/14 is as good a time as any to polish off the resume, update linked in and start the process of extracting herself from Elon destroying her agency.

Also— Shut it all down. You are only essential if there is a clear threat of civilian death if you aren’t doing your job. Guard nukes. Minimally staff the ICU at VA hospitals o people whose medical care is life threatening. And that’s it. No social security checks. No Medicare o Medicaid reimbursements. No emergency passports. No HUD loans closing. No public park building or memorial open to the public in any capacity unless you are visiting you spouse who is in the VA ICU. No ICE. No CBP. No TSA. No FAA.

Elon wants to lime ate government? We’ve had too many “shutdowns” that kept things American people would miss running. Shut it all down. Then people can decide if Elons plan is a solid one.

Everything, everything written here. I hope the government shuts down for six months. I hope MAGA gets everything it voted for. This is not my lesson to learn!

House is so close they can only lose one vote. And they have lost that vote. So you got to get purple district Republican WH will lose the midterms if Medicaid is cut and the Freedom Caucus on the same page— with 4T dollars of tax cuts for the wealthy and no consequences I Trump ompltely ignores the budget they come up with (including if he fails to pay for the pet projects in their states).

Pelosi got it done with similar numbers? Johnson— while Trump and Musk Qb and blow up any fragile alliance he can string together?

No, they need all the House Rs but Massie. And all the House Rs but Massie and Trump — and the Senate, BTW, are very much NOT on the same page.

Trump is running out of cards though. Remember all he could strongarm was the budget blueprint. A concept of a plan if you will. But there’s no time to flesh that out so they’ll have to do another CR.

Having all three branches of government and doing a CR that extends a democratic administration’s budget is pretty weak.

And then of course, there’s the debt ceiling.

Aside from threats of actual violence, Trump has no cards. Zelensky knew that. The question is, who in Congress knows that?

A shutdown is inevitable. But has Trump caused so much chaos and ruin that his party abandons him? Will the Ides of March be his undoing? He is moving at such a fast speed, breaking so much, that it might be.

Indeed.
“A soothsayer bids you beware the ides of March”.

Johnson is such a loser. The GOP owns it all. Johnson had best work with his party and see what can be done. He doesn’t need Democratic Party votes if he whips his party adroitly.

Pelosi got it done with this exact same tight margin. But she had balls. Johnson has given one of his to Trump and the other to Musk.
