Anonymous wrote:I was out earlier and county employees were snow blowing and shoveling sidewalks all around my neighborhood (near EFC). Our bus stop is also totally clear. I think most main sidewalks will be fine, it would be ridiculous to shut down until there is enough sun to eliminate every patch of ice from every curb in the county. People need to buy some winter boots and figure out how to exist like all the other people who live where it snows. I can understand a delay if the buses aren’t able to start bright and early, but the people making the call probably want a day off and aren’t inclined to open things.
Anonymous wrote:I just went on a 3 mile walk around my neighborhood and it drastically varies street to street depending on sun exposure. I estimate that 50% of sidewalks and curbs were covered in snow and ice. Most streets were plowed but some tiny side streets were not. The 25 degree temps tonight are going to make it very hard to open up tomorrow morning. Those early start schools start at like 7:30!

My street still hasn’t been plowed. I bet they cancel Wednesday too.
Back in 2022 we had the same amount of snow and they closed for a week
That was because they couldn’t get teachers to show up post covid. They were barely able to get enough teachers to show up with no snow. I remember that Friday they said they were opening and then had to rescind and close due to staffing issues.
Okay? Many teachers live in Fairfax. It’s a mess over there.
Yet so many other workers are managing to get to their jobs TODAY!!!
they probably don't take a school bus to school.
Seriously? Do you know how many of my kids' parents took a public bus to get to work today? Their kids can get to school and so can the teachers.
Public buses run on main roads. School buses go all over on neighborhood streets. Big difference.
The County prioritizes school bus routes and they are nearly all cleared as of late this morning. Keep all your fingers and toes crossed it works out though and you can stay in your PJs another day.
We'll see. There's also the issue of sidewalks and bus stops being clear so kids can walk safely to schools and stops without walking or standing in the road. I don't think there's any way APS opens on time tomorrow. Maybe a 2 hour delay.
