Sure

...Sure? Who are you and why would you waste people's time with a comment like this. I am really disappointed that people here keep trying to push their agendas about everything on others. Me and DH met at UVA and our son desperately wanted to carry that on. It is unfair to treat that pain with scorn, because you have some skepticism for whatever reasons. This place is becoming rancid.

The PP said "sure" because she didn't believe it, and I don't either.

On the bright side, your DS is quite likely to find a satisfactory spouse at some other school.

You are disgusting. I really hate when people like you talk from your high chambers about who is and is not allowed to speak. UVA rejected multiple people at DC's school, he just had the highest stats, but now we are trying for the ivies and other top schools.

Sure. You're allowed to speak. And we're allowed to speak, too. We're allowed to express skepticism about a questionable claim.

Questionable is one way to put it. No way in the WORLD any sane person would expect anyone to believe that worthless made up blather. Did your son communicate his desire to commit arson in his personal statement? If not, I am not even considering the possibility this made up piece of garbage is real.

UVA is an elite school, up there with Harvard. Why are you surprised it is competitive?

UVa doesn't hold a lump of coal to Harvard in any regard. Keep your wild ideations to yourself.

I beg to to differ and I have persoective on both. I went to both Harvard undergrad and its Law School when there was much less political nonsense. Those years, especially law school, were the highlight of my life. I made friends who have stayed with me my entire life. But like many who attended Harvard, I felt the undergrad experience wanting.

My DD went to UVA in the same major as I so was able to compare syllibi and course of instruction. DD's undergrad education and experience at UVA was superlative to mine at Harvard. She is now at Oxford doing grad work in the same field - again mind blowing. She's now looking at law schools and prefers UVA Law, which is now ranked no 4, as is Harvard.

Times change. UVA undergrad is now 24 in the nation and no 4 for all publics in the nation. Harvard has its troubles right now.

Right...
Maybe you should re-read your daughter's syllAbi (not "syllibi") and hone your reading comprehension + second grade spelling skills.

Then why bother even writing in here. We already know that UVA accepted males.

I am happy for males, females, football players, high SAT, low SAT - I don't care, but I would love to know if this person had 4 years of a foreign language in high school.

The question that will haunt us all...

Is there a reason why (I'm assuming) your DC didn't take four years? Just curious.

He did take four years, just one was in 8th grade. Then he is taking AP Bio and AP Physics senior year, in addition to BC Cal, AP English and AP Gov. Not room for Ap Spanish 5. But he just got in Georgetown School of Health REA so that double science + BC Cal did the heavy lifting over there!

It is more competitive to get into a college as a woman than a man. A majority of colleges have affirmative action for male applicants to improve the gender ratio.

Maybe at other colleges but there is no "man advantage" at UVA.

DD applied ED to Arts and Sciences. Deferred.
4.25 weighted from FCPS - one of the lower tier schools.

Those are such low stats for a top school? Did she apply TO? The UW is low too.

Y'all acting like UVA is Harvard or something.

It's a state school that accepts a wide range of kids.

Asians should have thought about this 100 years ago before they decided it was okay to own black slaves. Not cool. It’s called reparations for generations of wrongdoing.

3.8, 1490 SAT, MCPS, rejected. We are moving on to the next school with our head held high!

Unless you and your child share a head, you should probably dial it back and let them lead this process.

Athletes get rejected by colleges. URM’s get rejected by colleges. Uber-wealthy people get rejected by colleges. It’s not a simple “that kid took that kid’s spot”. Most people in this forum seem to be better educated and better off than most and should be able to understand that this is a very complex process. Their kids were born luckier than most. Enough with the hateful comments and be glad for the kids celebrating good news
