Can we mostly agree that it appears the ridiculous rec argument has been soundly disproven due to the fact that a team like Whitman has only top club players participating.
I think people don’t realize what rec level is lol. That’s for a guy named Jimmy who used to play MSI when he was younger and who wants to try out for his local high school team. That’s rec level

At our private it is just about anyone who wants to try out. Not hard.
Oh, well, when people talk about schools, they usually are referencing the giant public high schools most students attend. Not tiny privates with walk-on participation medal teams.
At large public HS, 100+ boys try out for soccer.

What is the point then, in all seriousness? It doesn’t seem to add anything.
We know college coaches don’t care about it and we also know college ADMISSIONS don’t care about it (unrecruited athletes are a dime a dozen -there are a million better ECs).
So why do kids play HS soccer?
I played 4 years varsity, then D3 soccer and it meant the world to me, but today it seems so professionalized or alternatively complete crap.

Genuine question...is anyone actually scouted through high school soccer? Are there even talented players only doing high school soccer and not club as well?
Teh most talented kids do not play HS - they dont want to get hurt by some field hockey kid from another team trying outside back for the first time.
This is absolutely not true. I would bet 90+% of ECNL boys play and 75% of MLS Next kids. Some DC United players risk repercussions and play against their coaches instructions. They all LOVE playing HS.
Calling BS on this
I don’t know if they LOVE it. But being Varsity Captain, MVP, all Met, all state, maybe even Gatorade player of the year etc is very impressive to college coaches. High school is the only path to those accolades.
Add a state championship to this list and you have not just a D1 player, but P4.
Nope. I call BS. I know a few players with Gatorade POY to their names and state champs etc. If you didn't get seen in club - you will not be P4. Not if HS is your only experience.
Correct. You need both.
You only need club soccer.
HS BS doesn't matter.
But the recruiting forms ask for the HS Coach.
My kid left it blank. He’s playing D1. They are recruiting at showcases - nobody cares about some form that thousands of kids fill out anyway. It’s there because some kids will only have HS. It doesn’t mean they care.
And let me further take your blinders off:
They are now primarily recruiting from actual MLS academies, Intetnational players and now seasoned older college players in the transfer portal.
If you have a boy and you are so clueless to think HS matters at all—-get that kid to start studying and doing SAT prep. Max out your 529. lol
I get it about boys. I think they have to go play D3 or JuCo and enter the transfer portal to have a hope.
But I think college coaches on the girls side care about winning state championships, Gatorade player of the year etc.

—-with roster sizes limited to 28 next year (and many colleges with 33-35 on a roster). They are cutting players and taking even fewer males yeah out of HS.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:But what about Glenelg?
