Options for 15U beginner not too far from DC? DD is doing a clinic, she's tall at 5'10 but is a total newbie. We've hired a private coach to try and fill in some gaps or atleast help her work on her strengths in addition to clinics. Where does she have a shot? No interest in recreational

Volley Viet is your only low cost option but no one knows if they will have a U13 team this year. They haven’t announced which teams they will run yet.

Unfortunately, Virginia doesn't have a club like MVSA to put pressure on the prices, so they can charge whatever parents are willing to pay. Budget for around $1k-$2k extra just because you cross to the other side of the American Legion Bridge. You will hear people here defending the price gouging as demand, but the name you use won't make any difference to your wallet.

Look also at Strive, Stars, and East Coast Elite. They all have practice locations in Howard County.

CVA and MDJRs are both good options. You have a better chance with MDJRs because they field multiple teams per age group. Xperience is another club that may be close to where you are located and where a beginner may make the 13U team. Coming down toward Montgomery County, Platform will also have beginners on their 13U teams.

Looking for club recommendations- DD is 12, we live in Howard County. She has several years of rec, did camps this summer and is currently doing a clinic with CVA. She can serve overhand and she’s 5’4.

I know MDJRs is an option but what other options may work? I’d prefer clubs in eastern Montco, hoco, or Baltimore area. I’ve heard that CVA is intense and as a relative beginner, I don’t know if she’d made their 13U.

She will be in the 13U age group and we live in Arlington. She is 5'5" (so somewhat tall, but not super tall) and is naturally athletic. She is currently participating in Mojo's fall league at the top level. Any suggestions on other clubs where she might consider trying out or doing fall clinics? Hoping for practice locations that aren't a crazy drive from Arlington (30 minutes or less), good coaches who will help her to improve, and a good team culture.

My only personal experience with MOJO was the club director trying to convince me that it is feasible to cross the American Legion Bridge for practices twice a week. Which immediately raised some red flags. Other than that, we met them in tournaments and we were not impressed. I keep reading on this forum that the teams are cliquey and mean (apparently some of their coaches contribute to the proliferation of this culture).

You are both lucky and unlucky to live in northern Virginia. You are lucky because you can find a list of clubs, nicely and professionally organized here:

You are unlucky because club volleyball pricing is a wild west over there. The entry point at U13 is still feasible, especially for an athletic player. It will get more and more difficult with the age.

At U11 level, she could join a club because she would have some advantage starting early. U11 teams have a relatively relaxed schedule, even though it is more intense than rec. If she wants to continue soccer though, there might be some overlap between practice and / or tournaments.
