Old lady here: yes. It's crazy. It matters more than anything else. I have a male playing D1 this year and a male Junior in HS.

I always found it absolutely insane that these clubs at the YOUNGEST of ages---would ask for your club and team (1st, 2nd, 3rd) and then 99% of clubs at tryouts would place you on the tryout field with the same rank team. If you were a U9 third team---you would be placed on field with new club third team. Often, you would never get a single look by coaches for any other team. There was zero concept that--maybe a kid changed (you now kids do change) or that they were horribly misplaced at other club for various reasons.

We were always fighting to just get our kids seen--and with the high caliber players. A player with sh*t around them is going to look like sh*t. My kids always rose to the level of play. If you put them on the top field they would fit in seamlessly--and excel. They better the level of play around them, the better they play and look (like most good players).

We found at the pro combines this totally wasn't the case. They didn't care who you were or where you were from. They looked at the player in front of them. That was the break-in point for my kid. AND--college teams work pretty much the same. Don't bother showing at an id camp if you are on a lower team--doesn't matter if you outplay all those mlsnext/academy kids. They need the pomp and circumstance to tout their recruiting classes on social media.

OP it's too late but get on a top club. Her morale will return when she starts winning. The whole develop your game thing means nothing without some wins. NOBODY - I don't care how old you are - likes to lose repeatedly. You have to be on a club that at least has a chance of winning. It's not that our new club wins every game but that we are competitive. Since leaving, DD has become her OG self and it's a beautiful thing.

There is another thread DCUM Soccer talking about "Loyalty to Team". I think anyone that reads your post should come to the obvious conclusion that the first order of loyalty should always be your DC.

I am happy to hear that your DD is enjoying soccer again and feeling like her "OG self" again . Kudos to you and her.

We aren't on the top team of the new club but she didn't care at all about that. ECNL-RL / ECNL club players cannot change to another club with teams in those leagues mid-year, even if the player is from an NCSL or EDP team and going to a team in those leagues. Its in the league rules. They also can't just train with a team to see the "fit" until March.

3.8.2. VPSL clubs may not train, invite a player to train, invited a player to tryout or try out any VPSL registered from another VPSL club prior to March 1st of that season, unless the player has been released by their current club.
3.9. Tryouts. Any team may conduct publicly announced, open tryouts to acquire players on or after March 1. Any player and/or his/her parents or guardians may initiate direct contact with any coach or team/club official for the purpose of joining that team for the following registration year.
3.10. Transfers.

A player rostered to a team in a VPSL member club is ineligible to transfer to any other team affiliated with a different VPSL club within the same seasonal year except as follows: the player has moved to the geographical area of the new club and beyond reasonable travel distance of the old club AND both Directors agree to the transfer.
3.10.2. All other transfers must be approved by both Directors and league administrator. 3.10.3. Transferring to a team affiliated with another league after being released from a VPSL
club team does not make the player eligible to then transfer to another VPSL club team.

We were invited to several of the practices and that was how our DD was evaluated.

I think they do on some level. When looking around at other clubs and some advanced private clinics, it was apparent they wanted to know what club, team and league my kid was currently at. I found out my club wasn't well regarded and that played into team placement/ consideration for skill level.

I think those coming from established clubs are judged a bit more bc there’s just more info about those clubs in general.

If you are coming from no name clubs, it’s a lot of unknown so I think assuming ur kid was a baller at that small club, they prob pay more attention to the skills they see.

Ultimately however, if u want to get a fair shake, practice with a team at least a couple of times. Most coaches can tell u (usually after the first session) whether u r a good fit for the team.
