Agree, DC's friend is a freshman at UF this year and has 3/5 online courses. It seems to be the norm there.
I've heard some overcrowding in the beginning, but it only lasts for the first couple weeks. Afterwards, many kids prefer taking the classes online (for personal convenience) so the actual classrooms become significantly less crowded. Despite some overcrowding issues and online classes, every kid that I know that goes there loves the school. This past year's yield was fairly substantial. Typically each entering class is around 6500, but his past (class of 28) year it had 7300. I'm not sure why so many kids chose UF this past year compared to previous years. However, due to the over enrollment, UF admissions will most likely be even more competitive this coming year (where they will need to admit less kids).

You are clueless regarding UCSD and UF. USC, as well.
UCSD is a bunch of UCLA rejects who can’t cope. Perfectly respectable school, but #3 & 2nd tier in their own testblind for entry overrated public school system. No way they should be above Georgetown, Emory & WashU.
UF much better than most would think nowadays. Regionally strong rep & network. Top UF kids are underrated and would be competitive at most any top school. Good # of hardworking bright kids w/hi-stats who just didn’t get into ivies or Duke/Vanderbilt/Emory or decided to stay home due to Bright Futures. But end of day being a public school & having to accept kids from all across the state, hard to put above Georgetown, Emory & WashU.
USC, same tier as Georgetown, Emory & WashU. Hard for older folks who remember the old USC to comprehend.
UF's SAT score profile is a 1320-1450. UF's 75th percentile is Emory, Georgetown, and Washu's 25th percentile.
I have familiarity with the University of Florida, the University of Georgia, Emory, WashUStl, Georgetown, and UC-San Diego. The University of Florida is an excellent state school as are U Georgia & UC-San Diego, however U Florida is a bit overrated (and overcrowded).
Forbes makes a point to differentiate it's rankings from US News and to shock readers in order to garner attention.
UF has never been TO. Honor college 50% sat is 1500+
You are not comparing apples to apples if you ignore the kids getting in Test optional at other schools.

You make two great points:
UF has never been TO and the standards for the UF Honors College are equivalent to those at the University of Georgia. Nevertheless, UF has to deal with overcrowding and lack of geographical diversity (even though the state of Florida is very diverse in other ways).
One way to compare would be to attend classes at several different highly ranked colleges and universities. The honors only classes at U Florida & at U Georgia are the most similar to all classes at highly ranked private colleges and universities.
Personally, I love the environment (social & academic) and myriad of opportunities found on SEC and Big Ten Conference campuses. Nevertheless, online classes (UF undergraduate business school) and large, crowded lecture halls for intro courses do dilute the educational experience.
The intro lecture halls at UF maybe crowded but the opportunities for research and connect with professors is fantastic. Georgia is a good school but it is not UF.
Once again, you share two interesting points regarding U Florida. I do know that opportunities for participation in research by undergraduates is real, and I suspect (respect your posts in this thread) that you are also correct about connecting with professors. U Florida definitely beats U Georgia for research opportunities due to U Florida's ability to attract research grants / funding.
U Florida is more like a Big 10 university than like an SEC school as both Big 10 & UF have a lot of funding for research.
With almost 35,00 undergraduate students, there are not nearly enough research opportunities for everyone who wants one. Many smaller schools offer a better chance to perform research under a faculty member.

Get over yourself. I worked in Nashville for a decade. Vandy grads aren't all they're cracked up to be. Most were on par with UTK alums. FWIW, the brightest and most intellectually curious people I met in Tennessee went to schools like Sewanee and Rhodes.
