I know UTK still has work to do to get to the UCLA/Michigan/UVA tier of public universities, but isn't it time to acknowledge the school has become a heavy hitter and probably belongs in the Texas/UGA/UF/Wisco class?
UMich overall acceptance rate is now 15% and the OOS figure is even lower, where are you getting your stats?
+100 UTK will never be in the same tier as Texas/UGA/UF/Wisconsin. Just be glad you’re not bama and give it a rest because this is getting ridiculous.
Take UGA out of there.

With a median test scores of 1290 SAT 28 ACT UTK is a good school but far from entering the ranks of an elite public. A low OOS admissions rate driven by solid but not exceptional academic stats demonstrates that the school is attractive not selective.
Look at CDS and WL admits before believing their claimed admissions rate fur this year.

UGA is closer to UTK than they are to UT, UF or Wiscy

He committed to playing rugby as well. He got off the waitlist @ UVA but decided to stick with UTK (I would've preferred UVA for the proximity but I'm not my son). UTK is one of his college counselor's favorite schools and had nothing negative to say (politics aside as he's coming from a DC private - TN politics suck). He's happy with his decision - go VOLS!!
And the acceptance rate for OOS this year was 23% - 45% in state. UTK has become increasingly more difficult to get into. For reference, we didn't look any further south than UTK and even TN is pushing my limits. But he's happy so I'm happy! And UTK has a decent rugby team and UVA does not. Nor does Tech (better than UVA).
You picked a school ranked 109 over a school ranked 24? What? I know ranking is not everything, but UVA and Tennessee are not even in the same league. Really, really poor decision.

UTK is a good school. It's a beautiful place to spend 4 years. I would be happy to have my kids go there. I wouldn't put it in the same tier as Michigan or Texas of Wisconsin, though.

100%
+100 It sounds like PP let their 18 year old make this decision based on the quality of the rugby team. Parenting fail.

I am in now way a UTK booster…but if you are going to study nuclear engineering then it’s actually an easy choice to pick UTK.
Almost any other major and I would agree.
Kids switch majors all the time. Tennessee over UVA? Nope. No way I would let my kid make such an idiotic choice. Maybe I am in the minority here, but an overall top 25 is a lot better than a school in the 100s! I don’t care what you major in.
Do you think VT is also far better overall?
