HHI income ~400k, 2013 VW Golf hatchback and 2013 mazda 3 hatchback. Both cars have around 50k miles, so we're hoping that we only have to buy two more cars in our lifetime to replace them.

2017 BMW X5 with 100k miles, will probably trade in sometime in next two years whenever repair bills start to mount

Why? $1M these days is just upper middle class. Two doctors together can pull in a combined salary of $1M. Or a physician + lawyer, lawyer + accountant, small business owner + doctor.
It's basically just two higher end professional degrees or business owners.
Well, for starters, those very high-paying jobs usually require lots of hours and/or sacrifices. Two such jobs are not conducive to a peaceful family life, so you often end up with a $500K earner and a $150K earner, thus falling well short of seven-figure-land.
That's just ONE reason I think most of you are full of it.
You’re a fool. My friend is a chief surgeon and now makes more money than ever working far less than he used to because he is chief. A consultant+doctor, accountant + consultant…..they all can make $1M combined. Yes, you’ll work a lot, but it isn’t insane either if you’re further along in your career.

Our HHI is $400k. We are about to replace our 10 year old minivan with a new minivan. We are planning to spring for all the features though. However this will be our first time ever doing so.

Clearly, you don’t understand these high-paying jobs. People put in the work earlier in their career and now often have MORE flexibility.
My DH and I make 10x what we made 15 years ago and work 2/3rd of the hours as we did then. Actually less than that if you consider that we take 2x+ more vacation days.

It’s very sad that with so much money, you have to drive unsafe beaters. I feel sorry for your teens. They deserve better. The safety features on these 18 and 14 year old cars are non existent or so outdated. You don’t want to drive luxury cars, I get it. But at least buy a newer Highlander and Lexus. Letting your teens drive an unsafe 14 year old Lexus when you can easily afford to put them in a safer car is criminal.

We have about $12M in assets, with that amount rising quickly and we are expected to move to a different category of wealth due to inheritance in the coming years (yet never count your chickens, and I don’t look forward to that eventuality at all.
We have an 18 year old Highlander, a 14 year old Lexus, and we just got a hand me down 10 year old Lexus so we could let the teens drive the other Lexus (which is a full out beater at this point) be driven by the teens.
