Currently his top choice is UGA of one's he's in is UGA. I know it's a bloodbath but the wisconsin one is killing me. Especially because his close friend got in. We visited and loved so much. He even loves the cold lol.
He does currently have straight A's but what else can we do or send? (Was also deferred at Michigan)
Got into UMD but not into. Just a vent. I can't believe we will have no idea where he's going until the spring. So torturous.
Georgia is the second best public in the SEC. Admissions are tough and have been for the last several years. My kid was rejected from her top choice (which the college office rated as a safety) but ended up choosing a school that suited best and is thrilled and thriving as a sophomore there. Things work out, OP.

Not true. Most colleges won't take calls from high school college counselors. Why would they when they are receiving 40K - 60K applications? They can't handle that many calls. Our college counselor refused to call any ivies for our DC saying they don't accept calls. Deferred, waitlisted
I guess this varies by HS. Our college counselor(s) talks to adcoms from all manner of schools, including ivies. NE public non-magnet. And yes I am 100% certain of this.
In fact, my understanding is it is essential during the waitlist period for your college counselor to speak and lobby for admissions.
Do colleges visit your HS in the fall? If so, then you can be certain the counselors have a relationship with the schools who visit. No reason they can't call them.

dp.. my super high stats kid got rejected to the T15 he applied to (CS major). And I mean super high stats from a magnet program. He wanted to go oos.
He got deferred at Mich, and got into UMD. He was very upset for a couple of months.
Then UM came back, but by then DC decided UMD was fine. He didn't want the cold LOL. He is at UMD now. He told me a few weeks ago during winter break when we had all that snow that he hates walking in the snow. I said then it's a good thing he didn't pick UM.
He also has a chance to transfer to GTech if he wants to, but he said no. He likes UMD. He especially likes the 4+1 program, but he had enough credits going into freshman year that he can double major and graduate in 3 years, +1 masters. And he got merit. So, he will end up with 3 degrees all for under $120K. I mean.. not bad. The remainder of the 529 funds will go to his sibling, and we will give him the cash instead, and a car. That also greatly pleases him. I think for DS, the rejection was an ego killer given his super high stats.
So, even if your DS goes to UMD or UGA or wherever, I think it will work out. It's a big school, and football is big, but there are so many other things going on.
When DS was disappointed, I told him the same thing that I told him when he was going to HS. It is what you make of it. You can either be miserable, or you can seek opportunities, make connections, and choose to be happy.

Deferred at Wisconsin with those stats? Holy cow! According to Prepscholar, the average SAT at U of WI is 1390. What do you have to do to get in unhooked and OOS? I would think she has a great chance of getting in RD, but ... it all seems so completely random, with no rhyme or reason to the process. Your child's stats are way above average for any school in the nation, including Caltech and Harvard. I hope you get better news in the spring.
I'll be advising my kids to pitch their expectations low and apply to lots of safeties.

Ask the school counselor to call or e-mail the regional admissions officer to say that Wisconsin is Larlo's number 1 choice.
This. Plus write a LOCI that says it is his first choice as well.
Family member from public in similar metropolitan area to DMV wrote LOCI to Wisconsin and got in (prior year). Didn't rely on counselor. Add specific details about the "why Wisconsin," including embrace of the cold!
