Sidwell may be better known because of the Obama girls but that doesn’t make it a better school. It’s cruising on its reputation. It has serious issues including a weak college counseling office. STA has its issues, too, but it is overall a better run school with stronger teachers in the Upper School.

I say that as a parent with kids at both schools. Sidwell needs to get its administrative act together and the HOS needs to stop with the blatant favoritism for politically connected families.

And yet the Secret Service managed to successfully secure St. Andrews for FOUR years[b].

The truth is the Clintons, Obamas, Nixons, Gores, Bidens, etc all chose the school that was best for their children. If they had wanted St. Andrews, GDS, Maret, etc the Secret Service would have made it work.
.

Are you stupid or something? St. Andrew’s is suburban and does not have the National Cathedral - which on purpose welcomes thousands of people to the Cathedral Close- sitting on its campus..

The Obamas wanted GDS but the Secret Service found the campuses difficult to secure because of the private housing that abuts both the Upper and what used to be the Lower School campus.

Security in the age of Nixon was a little different. Tricia Nixon attended Horace Mann, a public school. Amy Carter attended Stevens and Hardy. The Bidens have no school-age children.

Ah, the urban myth resurfaces. “The Obamas wanted GDS.”

If the Obamas had wanted GDS, the Obamas would have gotten GDS. They did not make that choice.

1. At least 2 of Al Gore’s children attended CATHEDRAL SCHOOLS (and received Secret Service protection) while he was a sitting VP;
2. A sitting President’s son attended St. Andrews; and
3. Sidwell’s US campus, LIKE GDS’ campus, is located across the street from private homes.

The aforementioned Presidents and VPs chose Sidwell because they considered it to be the best school for their children. Not because the Secret Service wouldn’t allow them to choose any other school.

I know that Sidwell is (arguably) considered the the best DMV private, but the vitriol and lies directed towards this school is unwarranted.

Yeah, Sidwell must be a miserable place. All of these wealthy and powerful people must have no choice but to keep sending their children to Sidwell.

And you conveniently left out the fact that Gore's son was expelled from STA.

Lol—are you new here? I’m certain there are no official STA records that say he was expelled. Counseled out/told STA isn’t a good fit? Almost certainly.

As a pp mentioned, he was STILL admitted to and graduated from Harvard…because of his last name. I’m not condoning this, but let’s not be naïve about how money and privilege work.

Back to the original comparison made upthread. Among DMV privates, Sidwell is unmatched when it comes to where Presidents and VPs send their children and grandchildren. Even Donald Rumsfeld’s daughter graduated from Sidwell!

He went to Sidwell at that point because the Sexret Service infrastructure was already in place.

Please show me anything, anything that states that All Gore's boy was counseled out of STA! The kid was expelled and Sidwell accepted him. Obviously Sidwell Accepted the Gore kid expelled from STA!

Why do you care so much?!? His life was unaffected by the counseling out/expulsion/voluntary leave. He ended up graduating from a better, more well known high school.

This is true. STA’s campus is more much porous since it is on the Cathedral Close. When Gore’s son was there, multiple entrances into the various campus buildings were unlocked throughout the day and into the evening. The 90s was a different era however, in terms of security. Public schools back then, like Wilson and B-CC, were just as permeable.

The Gore children were also at the Cathedral schools before Gore became VP, so I imagine they didn’t want to uproot all four kids. Little Al only moved to Sidwell after his…escapades…got him in trouble.

You couldn’t imagine it because you know your child wouldn’t be admitted to either school, and you can’t afford the tuition anyway.

Thanks for proving my point.

+1
If that’s how the parents are, no wonder the kids at both places are perceived as so entitled and snotty.

Really mean. Was that necessary?

No, but the insult that prompted it was unnecessary, as well. Typical DCUM.
