The median SAT score in the magnet is 1530. Every year they have dozens of National Merit Finalists.
It is helpful to know 1) rough aggregate statistics 2) bios/examples of kids going to different colleges? Why? In order to understand the impact of going to SMCS vs. home school on college choices.
I don't know whether this is still the case but often roughly half the graduating class goes to UMDCP, many with substantial merit aid. There are a lot of magnet donut hole families.

Why?
If your reason for choosing a magnet program is college admissions, then you are better off not attending the magnet. It's not about the destination, it's about the journey.
No, that's not the only reason but it's not a crime to consider that as well. College is no less important than HS. DC is very much into Blair but seeing how defensive Blair parents are about college placements gives me pause.
Oh my. Did you talk with the magnet coordinator? He very clearly says that you should not pick the Blair magnet because you are focused on college admissions. Pick it because it’s the right fit for your kid. Blair magnet college admissions are impressive - every year - but the administration of the program very much downplays this. They focus on the other benefits of the program and this culture is evident with the parents too.
And BTW, it’s not an AP program and kids are discouraged from going overboard on APs too.
I was there and I saw that, and I liked it. It's too early to stress about college. But I didn't get the impression that the thought of college is not allowed to cross your mind. I am even more surprised that Blaire parents are so defensive about it.
And yes, I know it is not an "AP program". Please.
I’m a Blair magnet parent and I’m not defensive at all. How can I help? Beyond the magnet magazine that goes out at the end of the school year and lists some destinations (I think about two thirds shared?) I have no idea. I don’t have a senior and the school doesn’t focus on or advertise acceptances. From my recollection about 30 or so were Ivys or similarly highly prestigious selective schools (including about 10 to MIT, several to HYP, a couple even to Cambridge in the UK). There were a good number to UMD too (20 maybe?). I didn’t keep it and I don’t remember the exact numbers. I’m not sure what this tells you. There are some remarkable kids in the program and they will and do have impressive acceptances.

Sure. If this is a place that doesn't tolerate dissent, it's definitively not for my kid.

I don't think it's defensiveness you are reading. It's wisdom they have developed with older kids. In the future you'll look back at yourself and your comments and cringe.
