The irony is that USAO, DC AG, MPD, the Mayor, and the City Council are all letting it happen on purpose due to a weirdly toxic mix of ideology coming from both the left ("equity!") and the right ("you voted for this liberals, so we won't do our jobs!")

Normal people in the middle are the ones who suffer at the hands of these criminals.

It serves as both the local and the federal prosecutor for the nation’s capital. On the local side, these prosecutions extend from misdemeanor drug possession cases to murders. On the federal side, these prosecutions extend from child pornography to gangs to financial fraud to terrorism.

Also, when DC passes criminal laws, Congress can reject or repeal them, and they have especially any gun laws DC passes.

So the question is, why is the federal government intentionally turning DC into a crime cesspool by refusing to prosecute and releasing offenders DC police arrest and going light on sentences? And, since the Mayor has no control over this by law, why are people blaming the Mayor? Personally, not a fan of her, but this is a federal problem and suggesting that giving the feds more power over DC would help DC crime is laughably ignorant.

DC AG (locally elected office has a higher prosecution rate of kiddy criminals than the USAO for criminal over age 18. It's crazy how badly the DOJ is letting young adult criminals run rampant.


I'm curious about outcomes and how that number is calculated tbh. If kid gets ineffective and unenforced diversion, is that counted as "prosecution"? If they are released with "services" does that count as "prosecution"? I have not seen a lot of breakdown re: those numbers and suspect the description is quite misleading.

My theory is that the Mayor, DM for Education, and OSSE have decided that it's better to keep these truant-criminals out of the schools so kids who do show up at school have a better shot at getting a decent education. I think their things goes - "Why derail other kids who are making a good faith effort by subjecting them to these truants?"

These truant-criminals are the same ones who start fights in schools, abuse teachers/admin, and take up a disproportionate amount of time and resources. They cause disturbances in class that detail instructions.

Frankly, I think the DC government has just given up on them and is expecting them to basically live a short life. I get the logic, but these kids need to be prosecuted and sent away.

Electronic monitoring is not well managed in DC or MD. Crimes continue to be committed on monitoring. Instead of serving as a deterrent, it teaches criminals, including juveniles, that almost every part of the system has broken down.

Carjackers up and working early this morning.



Several armed people against one armed person still are not great odds.

Wonder how many of these thieves are functionally illiterate or otherwise fairly unemployable? Once kids are in this life, how many realistically get out?

While more and more kids are absent in DCPS, graduation rates have gone up. Seems like that might be a place to start interventions if kids can be gotten there regularly. Not sure there is a will for much more than faking the numbers.

We have a registered weapon (spouse is highly trained), but really don't want my spouse to have to use it. I can see it causing all kinds of problems. DC loves going after non criminals.
