There, got it out of the way.
Bigotry here!
A freshamn we know there that came from a pretty diverse high school said he was taken a back at the use of the N word "with the hard R" and not used ironically. He's a white boy from Virginia so maybe assumptions were made that they could say that around him?
UTK is very high on my kidās list and this is the biggest concern.
It's a fair concern. I know one AA female who matriculated there from Florida (not Miami, but not the sticks, either) within the last five years and was shocked the casual misogyny and racism she experienced at UTK. She personally was called a B at least weekly and a C and N at least monthly (the N often in combination with the B), and heard the same epithets hurled at others much more regularly. She loved the rah rah at the school, but never felt truly welcome there.
The casual misogyny and racism (as well as ārah rah school spiritā) is real.
Iām sure youāll find that in a lot of southern schools.
Quit pushing these old tired tropes. If you actually spent any time in the south, you would know that these are not true. All the racism is happening on campuses like Penn and Harvard.
Look, I'm from the South (GA and TN) and I hate stereotypes about southerners as much as anyone. I have known lovely people there my whole life and have lots of family there, so I go down regularly. I may love the region, but it's just ridiculous to pretend that there won't be any racism or misogyny there. I hear it all the time when I'm there. I have affection for the area despite those things and for other reasons, but that part isn't great.

The exercise was a ranking by academic quality of SEC schools. Stanford was a hair's breadth from being conference-less and will be screwed when the inevitable ACC breakup happens.
The ACC is growing, not contracting. The point being you can have exceptional academics and athletics. The great schools arenāt gonna settle for just one or the other.

Kids are gravitating south because they are sick of the northern drama. Be happy if you hate southern schools because it will be easier for your kid to get into a northern LAC.

UT has a cool downtown. Auburn has a tiny stamp of a town that sells burgers, sweet tea, and some pimento cheese. Thats about it.
Don't forget the lemonade!
Thatās Georgia. Home of Chicfila.
