Tell me what it's going to take.
Sandy Hook didn’t change anything, nothing will. I gave up then. I had no connection to the families except that I was a parent too and I was traumatized. Americans suck.
100% agree.
Yep.

Well before the point of needing/hoping a mental health professional can derail this type of situation, something within our society is causing unbelievable levels of mental instability in a sizable number of individuals. Why?
There have always been crazy people. They didn't have AR 15s and we didn't have instant mass media.
Also, many of them were medicated and hospitalized for life with no access to weapons of any kind. Consequently, many of them weren't becoming parents and passing on their genetic makeup or attempting to raise children.

Actually seeing as how Maine has a strong gun culture, I am very surprised none of his targets had a gun and shot back.

1. Why was he released from the facility? Clearly, he is not well.
2. Given that he had threatened to shoot up the military base, why was he permitted to own a gun - any gun?
The document, circulated to law enforcement officials, said Card had been committed to a mental health facility for two weeks in the summer of 2023. It did not provide details about his treatment or condition but said Card had reported "hearing voices and threats to shoot up" the military base. A telephone number listed for Card in public records was not in service.

These are the right questions
No they aren't. We don't lock up people with mental illness indefinitely, nor should we. And the gun was either legally his or illegal. There are so many AR-15s around, they are very common.
is
The question is.... why did he have it given he was in a mental health facility for 2 weeks and had threatened to shoot up a base? This is the textbook case of where a red flag law is applicable.
Maine does not have red flag laws.
